Samuel and the Threat to Human Existence

High-Level Project Summary

We developed a story tasked with finding the similarities between the five disciplines within Astronomy. Our story follows Samuel as he goes around the known universe, gaining knowledge on all of these disciplines, to ensure that he can find a planet that satisfies the needs of the human race. Our project solves the challenge because we were able to find the similarity between the disciplines through colonization of planets. This is important because Samuel had to start his journey due to overuse of resources on Earth along with the increasing amounts of pollution. This story shows our audience what happens to our planet if we continue to take advantage of it.

Detailed Project Description

With our project, we hope to inform others through outreach about resources depletion and pollution, severe problems that are affecting the Earth. We utilized a word editing software in a cloud-based application in order to formulate our story, brainstorm ideas, and note down the results of our research.

Space Agency Data

We learned that the Parker Solar Probe can withstand temperatures up to 2500 degrees Celsius. Using this information, we were able to have our main character receive a new suit and extra knowledge on materials able to withstand these temperatures, that he can use to protect astronauts and the rocket itself from melting from certain distances.

Hackathon Journey

Our space app experience was enlightening and groundbreaking for us. We learned new skills and gained knowledge on different kind of topics within astronomy, that will be useful in our careers. We also had to apply our creativity in forming a story in order to solve the challenge.
