Goup - rocketing scientific connections

High-Level Project Summary

Our challenge was: Discovering scientific connections, the GOUP comes to connect young people to science in a fun way, and not only that in a survey conducted during the space apps 20121, revealed that over 51.2% do not know that research is being done by Nasa and 13.4% do not even know Nasa. And why am I saying this today, especially scientific information is very necessary, especially when we still have a culture of denialism hovering around us, or even to combat fakenews, which we find a lot on the internet.

Detailed Project Description

With GOUP we will create a connection between young people and the various disciplines of NASA, it will use the gamification methodology to make the usability of the platform more attractive, users learn the contents basically by playing. The idea is to learn while having fun, this will be done as follows: users register and choose the contents they are most interested in, then create an avatar, whose goal is to create a rocket to discover all the planets. To do this, he will have to complete the educational trails and challenges to earn coins that will be exchanged for materials to create the rocket. The user can also share his learning with his friends and form a crew to explore the universe. In addition, our platform can be used as a teaching tool for education professionals.

We want to connect young people to science in a more fluid way.

React was used for the development of the web application, which is a JavaScript library for building user interfaces, developed and maintained by Facebook. Visual studio code was used for writing and editing code. The web application was deployed at Vercel.

Space Agency Data

We used some data and photos to survey the subjects that we could use to create the trails. Besides that, we also used as a source of inspiration the kids area that exists on the official Nasa website and saw that it could use a more common language so that children could better understand the content.

Hackathon Journey

As I said before, we were very inspired by nasa's official website and the way they pass the information, and we noticed a certain difficulty of understanding of people with what nasa researches or even what is nasa ?

About the experience, our team was very enthusiastic until the last minute, besides being a privilege to participate in an event like this, we were able to develop something very cool to help in scientific dissemination.

We will certainly leave this event carrying a lot of knowledge.
