A New Life

High-Level Project Summary

A New Life is an animated series designed by our team, in this project we talk about a future moon colony and the requirements for this mission, including costs. In this project we also propose a solution to human overpopulation given that it is growing really fast. This animated series is intended for an audience between of 12 to 25 years old. We think this project solves the challenge because many science connections will be needed to start a colony out of our planet, which is why we try and present them in this series in a fun, dynamic and respectful way. It is really important because there is a lot of misinformation around and space exploration has been gaining relevance lately.

Detailed Project Description

The objective of this project is to relay information about how space missions work, how can you plan one, and all the things to take into consideration such as costs, the lift, the resources we'll need to take and how will we sustain a functional colony; we talk about how we'll be generating oxygen, grow food, and the people that could be suitable to start building everything. Also, we propose a solution to human overpopulation, in the information obtained we learned that the world population is growing fast, soon we'll have no space left, which is why we saw convenient to go out of our comfort zones and go beyond what we know so we can show how different relations can be formed for space exploration.

One of the benefits

we see in this project is that we can inspire other people to dream big and

take a huge interest in space exploration and also, they can learn more about

this topic and gain real knowledge, because there is a lot of misinformation

around, that's the reason why we thought of making this series for an audience

between 12 to 25 years old. Another benefit we see in this is the solution

we're proposing to human over population, and the use of renewable energy to create

a sustainable colony. Also, this mission would throw really useful data for

future missions.

For the creation of

this this project we used digital drawing and picture edition software such as MediBang Paint Pro and Photoshop,

and video editing software like KineMaster, CapCut and Overlays Vegas.

Space Agency Data

The first woman comics that are published in a mobile app inspired us to create characters to tell our story and relate these characters to our story and the challenge.

We used various news published in the official NASA page, specifically the ones about plants, and how to generate oxygen and energy. These articles helped us to obtain true information on what we needed to do to supply some of the needs in our story, and how can we make our colony sustainable. Also, this news helped us select the profiles needed for the mission such as the later ones.

We also found a pdf published by HIE Due Diligence Support that shows a full analysis of the space launch market, which also helped us with solid data for this project.

Finally, we found a scientific blog talking about the solar panels used in the ISS and some satellites, we used this information to tell how're we going to generate the energy needed for this colony.

Hackathon Journey

Our journey through the hackathon was really great. We go to know about this for a friend that shared the information so we decided to enter. We learned a lot of things, like the statistics of the world population and how to plan a space mission, at the same time we got to know different science connections related to space travel so we could use them for our story. Apart form the investigation made, we also gained experience on how to participate in a challenge like this one, since this Hackathon was our first, we really gained a lot of experience form this challenge, we think that if we participate again, we'll be even more prepared, also we gained experience by working as a team, since we all reunited one day to start working on this project. What inspired us to choose this challenge was that fact that we are all engineering students from different fields such as biomedical, mechatronics and aeronautics, we thought we could use this to our advantage and find various connections to space exploration. We solved the challenge by bringing ideas on how we could relay this information and investigating about it, we also had great tutoring form previous participants which really helped us, we'd like to thank them a lot, they're names are Jesus Vazquez, Erick David Baylu, and a special mention for our friend Gabriela Martinez who helped us with the video editing.
