High-Level Project Summary
Different but related, this describes our challenge the best. Looking into the different disciplines a connection have been found about seasons and natural disasters as volcanos, quakes, tsunamis, etc. between the earth and up there in the planets. A very fascinating topic not much focused on which can be introduced to the people to look more and have more researchers as it may help on discoveries which is the key for life beyond earth.

Detailed Project Description
Sitting on a hot day made us think on how is the weather would be on other planets, is it cold? hot? windy? cool and perfect ? all these question came across our minds in one simple question " Do they go through weather seasons as earth ?" and surprisingly the answer was yes, so we do look like each other some how ! we both have weather seasons then detailed search was made specifically on NASA's website to find out about the connection. NASA said " Each planet in the solar system has seasons. Earth has four seasons. Most planets do, too. They are called winter, spring, summer and fall."(NASA, 2014). While doing the search other connection was found too that planets go through the natural disasters as volcanos and quakes like earth does. As a group we all did not know that planets go through all of these we though it was cold and quiet place that nothing is really important going out there but the reality not as we thought.
Seasons
Having the seasons on other planets as we have is a great news, but looking closely to the point we do share a connection in different way, how ? Nasa said the seasons on the planets are different than we think, how? The length of each season on each planet is different than the other, some may take around 55 days on each season while other is 40 years which made us wonder will you be alive until the next summer vacation ?. NASA claims " There are several factors that affect the weather on the planets: the tilt of a planet's axis (which causes the seasons), the shape of its orbit around the sun, the presence or absence of a significant atmosphere, its average distance from the Sun, and the length of its day." (NASA, 2014).
Additionally, temperature is different on each planet even if the season is the same. For instance, summer on earth might be kind of hot and warm but on mars is cold and freezing specially during the night. ESA said "Even in summer, Mars is hardly hospitable in its temperatures, with lows that reach -140°C. However, the occasional high of 20°C may eventually attract holidaymakers." (ESA, 2019). Thanks to earth as it deserves the award of best summer season ever!
Natural Disasters
Space is a place full of mysteries , who would think that the planets and the moons around are having the natural disasters such as volcanos and quakes like the ones on earth !
Some volcanos were in the past only but some of them are right now active like the ones on Jupiter’s moon. In addition, the most interesting fact is that icy volcanos do exist ! Hey NASA , I need a ticket to space to explore the icy volcanos sounds exciting. NASA claims “NASA's Cassini spacecraft has found possible ice volcanoes on Saturn's moon Titan that are similar in shape to those on Earth that spew molten rock.” ( NASA, 2010). Also quakes was detected on Mars as NASA reported “NASA’s InSight lander has detected two strong, clear quakes originating in a location of Mars called Cerberus Fossae” (NASA, 2021). Science is interesting but the way you look at makes it more fun or more boring.
Benefits & Achievement
At first , when information about connections were found it was our first time knowing about seasons and natural disasters on other planets but the question was is it only us who did not know about it ? each member started to ask family, friends and people around us and mostly everyone thought that we are joking and all of these only happens on earth, so we took the topic seriously and started to find out more and thinking of how can we deliver the information on a fun way so they enjoy science, not everybody is a science lover so we must take this in consideration and information must be delivered in a simple clear way. All team members decided to create a short funny video that information is understandable and clear at the same time. After filming and editing, the video was sent to all the family and friends groups so they share their opinions about how did they find science through this video, it was a 100% positive feedback and everybody enjoyed it and they were surprised about the information of seasons and natural disasters on the other planets. Happy that we were able to deliver the information found to people around us and made them to look at science in a different perspective.
Tools Used :
- Stop Motion App
- iMovie App
- DJI OM4
Space Agency Data
Mostly all information used were on NASA's website
- NASA Science
- NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory
- General NASA Website
and Also some information were from ESA's website
- ESA Science
All the information used to find detailed data about seasons and duration of each one and temperatures on each planet. Much more, facts to prove that quakes and volcanos does exist on other planets. It inspired us to show people the mysteries of space and how science have endless of great information and provide us data to things that even humans did not see or been to before.
Hackathon Journey
Being part of the challenge made us discover even the small invisible connections that never have been in our minds on how ? what if ? who ? where ? to ask all these questions to ourselves. Never thought of the small details or things around us could exist somewhere else in space. Sometimes things are beyond our imagination and this challenge made us more curios about space and made us to think on everything around us and how it can be connected and how to think outside the box. Small details may leads us to bigger discoveries and developing technologies is the way to help on building these explorations about science.
Issues and difficulties were there , it wasn't easy to find a connection, clock was ticking and nothing came to our brain so finding the connection was not that easy as we thought. Editing and filming was even harder than finding the idea it took over 10 hours to get things done but all team members put their efforts to learn and apply the different skills and knowledge that each member have to get to the end line no matter what and will remember these days for sure as a great memory.
Thanks to NASA and their space agencies partners for the great challenge that changed our way of thinking to things around us.
