High-Level Project Summary

KNOW SPACE APPOur project seeks to accomplish the objectives of the “Discovering Science Connections” challenge. The main goal is to accomplish those objectives through the use of technology, and more specifically, by developing a mobile app. The Discover Space App has been built to help students from ages 7-16 make connections with the NASA sciences: there are five science divisions in NASA's Science Mission Directorate (SMD): Earth Science, Astrophysics, Heliophysics, Planetary Science, and Biological and Physical Sciences. We believe it is important for our country to have a tool that can foster the exploration of these sciences among kids and the youth.

Hackathon Journey

We believe that the journey has been all about discovery. Each team member discovered and learn about NASA, developing and about making connections. We were inspired by the fact that there are all these sciences that in our country lack relevance. On top of that, our country does not reach the passing grade for the subjects of science and mathematics in our national standardized tests. We gathered up our team with different professionals: engineers, web developers, educators and doctors. We all study different things, although our approach was using our individual knowledge so we could create something that is innovative and educational. All the team members did their part by researching the science divisions by NASA. Everyone learned as much as we they could so that all the members brought something to the table. After a number of meetings we started building the app containing all the target data and how the users will make the connections with the information and our life on earth.
