Be C.I.D. - Curious Ingenious Diligent

High-Level Project Summary

To discover new ideas in a world so advanced, seems to be impossible in the eyes of a novice. But imagination and an inquiring mind, are the foundation of new breakthroughs. So, how can we inspire out-of-the-box thinking and establish new connections between science disciplines? Our response is to create a unique platform to spark the interest of new and upcoming minds, so they can share amazing and innovative discoveries between the vast array of disciplines. We want to represent the imaginative process of research and allow our discoveries to be shared in an immersive atmosphere. We want our users to feel like they are a part of the story and research and exploration process.

Detailed Project Description

Features Of Our Platform:

Our webpage is modeled with immersive elements that interact with the user's senses, such as audio and visuals, to emulate a physical experience. We believe that by involving the user in the UI, it allows them to be engaged in the new breakthroughs and innovative ideas hosted on the webpage. We have used 8D audio to create an impressive surround-system atmosphere. With the help of motion graphics, we aimed to make the visuals 3D and absorbing. Our platform allows an engulfing experience without any extra hardware, though, in the future we may be able to adopt the concept for a Virtual Reality or Augmented Reality escapade.

The theme of our website revolves around a planetary expedition to Mars, to explore and investigate the planet surface. In the future, the theme can be adopted to various other topics and ideas. For the first version of this web page, we have posted our thoughts about the relation between two of the science disciplines. We have explored the nexus between Forensic Astronomy and Planet Science to highlight various curious cases (new discoveries) solved on the Red Planet. We found it interesting how Forensic Science and planet habitat could be related to each other. Forensic science, for the purposes of space, is called Forensic Astronomy. We chose this topic to highlight the interesting findings and similarities between these disciplines.

Please use headphones and listen to the audio for the full immersive experience.

What We Hope To Achieve:

“Imagination is the highest form of research.” - Albert Einstein.

We hope our platform is a source of inspiration, creativity, and knowledge and that providing such a creative outlet will help users and novices to be able to visualize and think of fascinating questions for them to solve. Our platform aims to encourage minds, no matter their age, to stay curious and to approach the world in a new perspective.

Hackathon Journey

Why We Chose This Challenge:

Being able to discover new relations and associations has always interested us. To be able to present this passion of ours in a creative manner persuaded us to choose this challenge.

Challenges and Setbacks:

  • Trouble with audio in webpage.
  • Trouble with layering elements in HTML.
  • As we are a team of two, both of us had large chunks of the responsibilities.

Our Approach and Experience :

Overall, we had an amazing experience. The main takeaway for us from this competition is how to plan efficiently but also account for flexibility. We gathered all tools required in advance, so we were able to eliminate spending time in search of resources. We started on the web page and split the pages between us so that we could work efficiently. If any problem arose, we would discuss and find a solution together. One of us had the responsibility of managing audio and the other had the responsibility of visuals. We were able to learn a lot about managing our time, splitting our work and resources, communicating clearly with each other, and even grasped new facts about our universe!
