UPSTAIRS HOUSE

High-Level Project Summary

The Nexus team has developed an application that allows users to access a tab of explanatory content on various branches associated with NASA's scientific disciplines, for example, space medicine, space food production and astronomy. Interact with astronauts who are on a space mission, post images of materials that can be reused in the development of new equipment. The Upstairs House app, aims to show the public that science is not far from it. With a simple interface it becomes accessible to users with little technological experience. In addition to bringing a more “realistic” view of science, using everyday facts. With this, new audiences would be interested in research and development.

Detailed Project Description

It is well known that science is present in the daily lives of citizens, however, part of the population has difficulty understanding how life on earth facilitates the understanding of life in extraterrestrial space. Upstairs House makes people closer to NASA projects and, thinking about accessibility, the application will have a podcast option specifically for users who have visual impairments or who for other reasons cannot read the information provided. Thus, the tools used in the development of the prototype were Photoshop and Figma. However, for the final project we thought about working with machine learning and artificial intelligence. Assuming that NASA works with Python, it intends to implement Python as a back-end and front-end language.

To develop our project we use photos and videos available in the resources tab. In addition, we base ourselves on projects already developed by NASA and projects that are under development.

Hackathon Journey

In this hackaton we were able to develop our skills towards a greater goal, we work in a team of people with different research strands, but who share a common interest in the sciences that involve the study of space. The process until the realization of the challenge in which I had the objective of finding connections with the sciences was completely fluid, as there was identification with the proposal from the beginning.
