High-Level Project Summary

Development of an interactive website platform to explore, filter open-source data recorded under NASA's Science mission disciplines and other space agencies, showcasing similar discoveries and activities observed on our planet, exoplanets, and the moons. The challenge brings all the available open-source data connections from the research and use of robotics in exploring space to research and scientific discoveries being observed globally by scientists and are presented in one data filtering website platform favorable to new and diverse audiences. With many upcoming space exploration enthusiasts, the platform is an important archive center for data resources from different space agencies.

Methodology

Different use cases experimented by scientists and researchers globally about planet earth have shown similarity with the occurrence of activities from other planets in our solar system and the moons. Open-source data from the different space agencies have shown a connection with the activities conducted and happening around us, we collected the data linkages, connections and presented them on a website platform where new and diverse audiences can filter data from among the five divisions of NASA’s Science Mission Directorate(SMD), where each division has a variety of data similarity to the activities conducted in space. The team conducted research on the various activities in NASA laboratories, planetary occurrences, planetary disasters, and technologies deployed to connect to discovered features from other planets and moons. The similarities of data activities as presented on images, audios, and videos were well analyzed and presented to the website platform(https://wormholesofscience.club/).

 

How the Project Works

With sufficient data resources, the filtering website platform groups the data connection of the Five NASA’s Science Mission directorate disciplines(SMD) as menus to navigate through as follows: Astrophysics data, Earth Science data, Heliophysics, Planetary Science Data, Physical and Biological data. As an example, if you want to find connections between Astrophysics, Physical Science, and Earth Science, then you will just have to select the three tabs corresponding to each other and there, the user finds the ingenious data recordings from discoveries are connected.

 

In the five science divisions in NASA’s Science Mission Directorate (SMD) there are many connections between the NASA science disciplines, which gives a glance to more exploration of the worlds in our solar system and the elements of the larger universe. From the research and experiments taking place in earth’s facilities, some similarities have been displayed that bring expound scenarios when exploring the universe and distant galaxies. 


In our research, we present the data linkages of the NASA disciplines in a web platform, which includes the connections in the following fields: planetary geology, surface deformation, waves and tides, atmosphere and gases, mining and automation, robotic assistants, medical and health surveillance for astronauts, genetics and transcriptomics, hydrology and interstellar ice, winds, space radiation, aircraft, and suborbital flights and planetary atmospheres. 

The data simulations on the earth have created a great impact on the discoveries and research into exoplanets and the deep universe. In the research, we find the types of discoveries that were made by deploying telescopes, lunar missions, Mars latest discoveries, robotic purpose exploration, etc.

  • Easy for new and experienced audiences to find data connections of activities around the global research centers & in space in a filtering website platform, listing the linkages under specific NASA (SMD) discipline.
  • Timely responsiveness of the filtered data on the website.
  • Real-time and reliable open-source data for all the users to interact through on the website platform.
  • The convenient point with a collection of data connections from different sources is displayed on the platform.
  • Presence of scientifically and developed technologies in the ongoing and past missions from NASA space agency, represented from verified images and open-source data.
  • The simplicity and complexity of the open-source data have been clarified, elaborated, and well grouped favorable for new and diverse audiences.
  • The mode of data collection used was democratic and collaborated from different aspects into one platform. 

 

The goal of the project

The importance of these data connections in the research field opens a huge spectrum of exoplanet and space discoveries in collaboration with the technological equipment deployed for the missions, therefore creating a platform to filter the data respectively amongst the Five NASA’s science mission disciplines that serve both new and diverse audiences.


The findings on the research as presented on a web platform for easy interaction for learners and researchers to access the data connections openly highlights the importance of space exploration and study of earth materials and phenomena. Our findings indicate more and interesting data connections ongoing in our solar system, galaxy, and the whole universe in whole.

 

The study of the earth, stars, and other planets open practical aspects of interaction, Whereas earth scientists are more concerned with earth materials concerning the results of space exploration to showcase the vision of the birth and development of planets. In the different NASA science divisions, scientists have studied soil and rocks brought from the moon which shows similarities, they have also observed magnetic radiations, and discovered water molecules from the Hubble space telescope. With the most advanced equipment that excavates and takes the exoplanet layers of the regolith back to the earth, the types of equipment are automated and robotic to overcome obstacles pertaining to the specific space mission. The practical benefits from the earth research and findings bring a better analysis of space exploration in the following areas: atmosphere, water, planetary regolith, waves, and volcanic features.


From the analog missions to the current missions there have been planetary discoveries that closely relate to the earth and bring motivation to study the universe and the distant galaxies that link to how their formation originated.

Space Agency Data

DATA USED :

NASA Science Mission Directorate: Gather the list of data from the five divisions of the NASA Science Mission Directorate.

NASA image and video library: Post and Pre missions, discovery images, and videos were observed and linked to data connections from NASA research centers to space exploration.

NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory(JPL) data: Current data on mars rover and robotic functionality were used for comparison in the data connection.

CSA(Canadian Space Agency) balloons data: Pre and Post stratospheric balloons and spacelight technology comparison to Mars perseverance rover robotic data connection.

NASA SMD toolkits: Pre and Post NASA missions to gather information of all Missions with data linkages.

NASA ocean worlds: Collect information and observation of water catastrophes in space and earth.

 

Inspiration for using Space Agency Data

Scientists, researchers, and university students globally have been studying data from planet earth discoveries to link space exploration for the search on human inhabitants in exoplanets and planets. The curiosity for the search for life beyond our planet has led to the introduction of technological applications such as Robotics, automation e.t.c, to explore the planets in our solar system that show planetary similarity to inhabit human beings.

 

Earth features and occurrence of activities such as volcanoes and the effects of electromagnetic waves have been studied and observed which opened a great opportunity to study the exoplanets' regolith and left marks on the past activities believed to have taken place. Our presence on earth and its features such as water have allowed us to study the moons’ in our solar system that have similar conditions to inhabit human beings.

 

Therefore, Different space agencies such as NASA, ESA, CSA/ASC, ASA, JAXA, SANSA, and AEP has been launched from the continents on the earth and curiosity of researcher and scientists trying to find out how the universe and the planets were formed, the formation of a black hole, presence of gravitational waves in space, the age of the sun, the discovery of wormholes and how the universe is expanding in all dimension at a rate of 6.5 light-years per year in a distant cosmic, these space agencies have provided open-source data from the past and current discoveries from satellites, telescopes and robotic drilling for researchers, scientists globally to study and discover interesting features.

 

Hackathon Journey

When our team first met, all of us felt something click. The first thing we realized was that our names can be put in an acronym: STARR. It stands for Super Tricia, Audric, Ramiz, and Robinson, But wait, there's more! Our minds wandered to the Beatles artist, Ringo Starr, and we realized something perfect. We can play with the word "Ringo" and separate it into "Ring-O". The ring and letter O signifies how we encompass the diverse science disciplines (very fitting for our challenge which is Discovering Science Connections). That's when we learned that team Ring-O STARR is not like any typical team.

With individuals curious about space exploration and the discoveries that have been recorded from space agencies, the team worked tirelessly, at some point exhausting. But teamwork, collaboration, and constant meetings on the progress and discussion on different ideas ignited the mood to work even extra hours on the project for the pursuit of social good. 

The sheer curiosity that we shared as a team drove us to explore the data recorded from space and earth that highlight the formation of the universe and activities ever happened to planets in our solar system. We all felt the need to fill in the missing gaps between NASA’s different science disciplines.

We learned tons about how unusually distant areas of research can have a connection that not everyone can see. We also learned that collaboration from different aspects of life and departments of study contribute to the diverse discovery and study data from different sources.

The approach in development was democratic. We all listened to everyone’s opinion so that we can create a project that is a melting pot of our ideas. The democratic ideas were evaluated by the members of the team and documented with great reference thereafter. Indeed teamwork is power! 

Especially in the universal event, communication is the most important thing among teams. We managed to push through problems by being open and honest with each other. With that, we’d like to thank NASA for bringing people like us together. We only met for a short time, but It is an unforgettable experience we will forever cherish.
