NASA AR

High-Level Project Summary

We in NASA AR have tried to bridge the connections among various divisions of NASA's Science mission Directorate .Science in one domain may inform discoveries in other disciplines and hence we are putting forward an idea that acknowledges the interconnection among researches in various domains of SMD involved in a particular project. Our submission includes an AR app which implements the above idea. The NASA AR app includes various projects. For example, the findings of Hubble telescope paved ways for discoveries in other SMD's divisions.

Detailed Project Description

Our solution builds upon the idea of presenting how the discovery in one domain results in findings of other divisions and how various branches of sciences are all interconnected.

Our submission includes an Augmented reality app built using Unity game Engine and AR Core.

The app is based upon markerless AR.

It's UI includes scrolling buttons which when clicked ,the model related to that particular project pops when the screen is tapped.

Taking the example of the first button i.e. the one for the Hubble Telescope , the model augments on the screen when the screen is tapped after clicking the button .

Further the images ,clips, animation , voiceovers and related texts are augmented along with the rotating model.

Even though NASA is a very well known organization yet it is not known to

community which has less knowledge in the field of Astrophysics, therefore

our exciting project that is truly based on marker less AR will excite the

people to know more about the valuable works performed by NASA.

Benefits:-

  1. Making different branches of NASA more exciting to a large number of masses.
  2. Providing opportunities to various people involved in NASA to see their old projects in an unique way.
  3. We connected Augmented Reality, an emerging technology to a well known space organization(NASA).

Tools/Software:-1.Unity

2.AR Core

3.Filmora

4.Photoshop

5.MS Powerpoint

Coding language:-C#

Hardware:-1.Laptop

2.AR Core supportive phone

Space Agency Data

We used references verified from NASA and other Space Apps partner space agencies which include :-

https://hubblesite.org/news/news-releases:- We did use this site to collect various information to be used in our project like its launching , working and the various division' s contribution in it.

https://science.nasa.gov/:- The website became a boon to our project because it included some vital information like the internal working of divisions.

https://science.nasa.gov/about-us/smd-vision:- Provides information on research done in various NASA divisions.

We also took help of various you tube clips and included various images available on NASA's channels and sites.

Hackathon Journey

NASA Space App Challenge was very welcoming . This timed event got us together to collaborate intensively in creating the project. We all worked in a high paced development environment. The challenge polished our skills and the experience earned taught us to work in a healthy environment with all the fellow teammates. My team was interested and passionate about the challenge after few hours brainstorming and trying to narrow down what the problem specifies, we finally decided to build an AR app to connect the SMD Divisions.

While going through all the problem statements and summarizing the same, my team and I felt the need that there was so much to learn from the divisions involved in the working of projects like Hubble , Parker probe and many more. There is a lot of theories available but sometimes it becomes confusing to remember every details as we found while speaking to some people. To present these amazing theories in a way such that it is unique and easy to remember , we present to you our "NASA AR"!!

There were lot of setbacks , like it was a tough task to find accurate data and arranging them in a way that originality is maintained while presenting in a unique manner. But it went well because of our rigorous hard work.
