Black Wheels is a project that uses data related to traffic from satellites and uses data analysis to predict the places where bumps exists. In addition, there are Arduino circuit that is integrated with various kinds of vehicles that use the data to change the vehicle’s speed based on its distance to the closest pitfall. It consists of Hardware and Software parts, the hardware, which is connected to the vehicle, is responsible for decelerating the vehicles' speed. Moreover, the software part (Mobile Application) is responsible for tracking the bumps and adding the new bumps based on the users' inputs & the governmental works.
Problems in the traffic system are many to mention. However, the most noticeable is road accidents. In fact, the causes for the accidents varies: driving at night, lack of safe roads, drivers' incapability (e.g., slow reactions) and broken vehicles (e.g., broken breaks), while road problems are hard to solve innovational other problems are much simpler. The high accidents rate in night driving and due to drivers' incapability are more related to the control of the vehicles. Furthermore, the management of the aftermath of the accident if it is inescapable is also part of the problem.

According to a study, Egypt is the highest among Arab countries in the death rate due to road accidents. In 2016, human error caused 72% of traffic accidents; Egypt’s states statistics agency (CAPMAS) has said in report that 2018 saw 8,480 road accidents in the country, down from 11,098 in 2017, a drop of 23.6 percent.

Deadly road accidents occur daily in Egypt due to poor road safety, badly maintained infrastructure, and loosely enforced traffic regulations.

This idea is completely new and objectively solve the problem of pitfalls, it saves the cars’ body from being ruined through the pitfalls. The product will be handling the car instead the driver while facing the pitfalls, it shows an immense ability to slowing down the cars’ speed. The team is professional in technology of IoT and in health managements which ensures the highest level of experience for the dedicated service. The meeting the portion of intermediated income people to above which clearly satisfiable for multiple number of manufacturers. The product is warrantied for the manufacturer problems. The product is available for the dedicated cars’ manufacturers.

The main paper which inspired our journey into developing a system that integrates into road traffic using satellites and data from space: https://www.esa.int/esapub/bulletin/bullet115/chapter7_bul115.pdf

Actually, it has been a great honor to be in such a collaborative-competitive community. A community that helps, guides, collaborate, and compete in the same time! We learned a lot from this community, how to progress in a real project, how to engage with a team in a project, how to perform the space apps experience and use the data science in projects. We could share experiences between each team member, making meetings, teaching each other, and approaching the Hackathon as a team of experts not just students.
Working on traffic and urban development aren't easy challenges, but with the aim of learning about our country and ensuring safe roads for drivers these reasons were like a relief for us. Therefore, we started developing a hardware system that manages the vehicles' speed in the congested roads.
First, we researched the problem of congested roads, worked on shaping the problem to fit the year's challenge. Then, we developed a hardware part to control the vehicles' acceleration and coded it using Arduino board. Finally, we coded a software app to add the hotspots to the map so that the government can manage to add the congested hotspots too.
For sure, we faced a lot of obstacles, but with passion we could handle a last minute deadline pressure, debugging the code until the judgement session.

This project has been submitted for consideration during the Judging process.
Data from Earth-observing satellites, airborne science platforms, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and in situ platforms can be used to address development challenges around the world. Your challenge is to use this data to enable local stakeholders to develop more sustainable, disaster-risk resilient, and inclusive urban plans.
