Urban Resilience Monitor

High-Level Project Summary

Globalization represents an accelerated demographic and urban growth, even though it allows technological advances it also encourages economics and social inequities. The capacities of governments of all countries have been exceeded over the years. The evidence of this is the current SARS CoV-2 virus pandemic, which has called into question the strategies that governments have in the face of any type of risk. Our project goal is to design and build AI drones that support the prevention of disasters in real-time. We'll be using IoT hardware, NASA resources, and Azure Services to collect data to create efficient devices.

Detailed Project Description

Mexico City faces various challenges at an environmental, social and economic level due to its geographical location, the socio-environmental transformation it has experienced and its social context. Population growth and the expansion of the territory have generated problems such as intense exploitation of natural resources, inequality and marginalization; irregular settlements, high generation of waste and pollution, among others. Furthermore, climate change is an extremely important factor as it can intensify risks and make them extreme.

It seeks to establish a way to give visibility to vulnerable areas of the city without the need for citizen reports which are mostly not made on time, monitoring through image processing and pattern recognition through artificial intelligence offers multiple benefits to those involved.

Space Agency Data

Using data provided by NASA satellites, we designed a drone capable of monitoring the main natural disaster risk areas within Mexico City, being able to identify and report natural disasters through machine learning algorithms.

Hackathon Journey
