DRONES AND SATELLITES FOR URBAN DEVELOPMENT

High-Level Project Summary

The main motto of our project is to process the data collected by drones and satellites in such a way that will be helpful for the areas in the world where the urbanization rate is below the state average. Our team will create an application that shows the percentage of parameters such as water availability, solid waste management system of the under-development areas at daily intervals. A team that will be tracking the data continuously will do necessary needs if the percentage of the above parameters is below the basic limit. We, the citizens should be responsible to bring out a change that will be helpful for one's daily life.

Detailed Project Description

We are going to develop an application that will merge the data collected by the Drones and Satellites. There are some constraints in merging the data collected by Drones and Satellites. Because, Satellites only have a long sight view of the area where there is some kind of problem, whereas Drones can be able to exactly spot out what the problem is. Both the data should match and correlate with each other so that we can solve the problem accurately. Proper coding can make the coordination process in enhanced way. We are going to use the Javascript language for both the front and the back end, as it allows web pages to respond to user activity and dynamically updates themselves, in the case of the back end Javascript speeds up the development, making it more time and cost-effective by unifying the code-base.

Space Agency Data

We have used the NASA space agency data such as "Earth observation Toolkit for Sustainable cities and human settlements", Here they have used the Earth observation Data to calculate Open spaces for public use in Colombia. They have used the DANE's methodology, which specifies some important works such as,





  • Selection of low cloud satellite images
  • Classification and validation of images
  • Quality review of results.

These are some of their notable works which we have taken for our reference. And some more references we have taken from a particular application Water live which will provide the live water level, flow rate, rainfall, This app provides real-time information from automatic digital devices from over 1200 water monitoring sites throughout the states. Here they have used digital devices for tracking the water level, Drones and satellites can be further helpful for the betterment of this process.

Hackathon Journey

The Space Apps experience was good. Though we could not able to complete the challenge, we learned some new things and gained knowledge in the field. According to us, it is all about learning, whatever the results may be. This Hackathon made us learn something new. The main thing is to develop an application, we don't have any software developer team, yet we have learned about the front end and the back end and took a survey of which language is good for creating an application.
