We have come up with a system to make growing plants in space easier. Our system is a hydroponic system. So it does not contain soil. How the device works is that a mixture of water, vitamins, and minerals is passed through the roots so and we filter this water and we use it again directing them with pumps. This technique lowers the span of time for it to grow. We use a a purple plant light to maximize the efficiency. With our system growing plants in space is easier and the astronauts can have a healthier diet with fresh veggies.
Our system is a hydroponic system which is a dirtless farming system. The seeds of the specific plants that we have chosen sits on cups where water is runs under it this supplies the needed amount of water mixed with minerals. This makes it possible to grow plants in a smaller span of time and we can also reuse the water.
The water runs into a bucket the water moves in the direction we want by pumps but unlike farming on earth we do not need pumps to get it up we just need one to get it down because there is no gravity in space.
Another pro to reusing the water we can also use the astronauts urine which contains some chemicals a plant needs. For example, plenty of nitrogen, vital nutrients potassium.

Our hackathon jouney was exciting but also scary. Its my first time joining a hackathon but It is my partners fourth time so I literally asked everything to him. It was scary because researching these topics were hard the reason for that is because these are new areas that I am not familiar with but also It was exhilirating knowing that every drop of knowledge is valuable we probably used ten or twenty. The only setback we had was that we mixed AM to PM so when we lerned that this morning we were in a rush to finish presentastion we have not started yet

A viable food system for long-duration exploration missions does not yet exist, but it will be necessary to maintain crew health and performance. Your challenge is to design a deployable crop production system capable of supporting the nutritional requirements of a crew of 4-6 on a transit mission to Mars and back to Earth.
