PLANTER

High-Level Project Summary

We have developed a sustainable and deployable food system for astronauts. To support other deployable crop production system(such as APH, veggie), it is needed to design and develop implements with our post experiences which can find innovative solutions to environmental restrictions. That's why we developed the system called "PLANTER". The achievement of this project is important, since the purpose of previously developed systems was not to provide food for astronauts.

Detailed Project Description

The "Planter" system can continue the photosynthesis cycle under space conditions. The system which we developed can filter air and water by itself, measure and adjust temperature, pH and pressure values, supply the plants nutritional, mineral, vitamin and water needs, provide oxygen and carbon dioxide balance and have a power source to achieve all these. And since this project will be used in space, all materials of it are enduring to radiation.

Hackathon Journey

It was quite enjoyable. We have learned to work as a team, to find efficient resolutions for problems, to manage the time and to search in detail. Since we all interested in biology, we have chosen this challenge. We have designed this project because we thought there should be a sustainable food system for astronauts. We have come over issues with team work. We would like to thank our dear teacher Ahmet Sülü for helping with 3D designing, we also would like to thank our dear mentor teacher Mustafa Düzenli for his support.
