Detailed Project Description
The project "Exporting life" aims to create a method of cultivation in space to guarantee the safety of food for the crew and to provide the nutritional inputs necessary for a round trip from Earth to Mars. With previous research, types of seeds and plants have been selected that are capable of coping with very different conditions than on Earth. This production system is "renewable", due to the reuse of what is produced (recovery of water, oxygen and product). Hoping that the method is feasible for different trips made by NASA, generate new seeds and fruits with new genetic material that allows them to adapt to space conditions.
