Lightweight Collapsible Advance Vegetable Growing System (LCAVGS)

High-Level Project Summary

In the space app challenge competition, our team "Mjölnir" has made a system for vegetable planting called "LCAVGS"(Lightweight Collapsible Advance Vegetable Growing System) . The following points were specifically considered in designing our system.♧The weight of the system ♧The volume of the system ♧The reliability of the system ♧The simplicity and the efficiency of the system ♧The protection from radiation to the crop ♧Ability to supply food for a long period of time ♧Ease of water ,nutrient supply ,harvesting. we have used the "space agency data" to obtain the information . This system reduce excessive costs, saves volume and resources. Our target is to ease the space travel.

Detailed Project Description

Structure and Functionality of the System. Here is a basic description of cabbage cultivation. Our system is basically key. Consists of 2 main parts. That is, Crop retaining role and the role rack.


Crop retaining role ~


These rolls were mainly used for seed retention and germination. These rolls are very flexible and made to soak well with water. These rolls are made primarily of compressed cotton. Next, the cotton is fastened with wire mesh on the outside and on both sides and attached to the roll with strapping clips on both sides. Compressed cotton is used to retain the seeds and to germinate the seedlings after seed growth. It is important that the cotton is loosened by the nets and that the rollers hold the flexible loop. The rubber plumbing system runs through the parts for water supply.


Roller rack ~



This is basically used to hold the rack. The discs on either side are made of glass fiber. These tubes can be easily moved and held in place by the coils in the coiled drains. These racks are Collapsible . The outer cover has a Graphene layer 1 cm thick and protects the crop from Graphene from space radiation.


Our system has a computer system for environmental quality control, which has sensors. And it has a display with a user friendly software user interface to control the system.

The computer was primarily used in the design of the system, and software such as Microsoft paint 3D, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe XD, Microsoft office and camscanner were used.The main purpose of designing this system is to provide the food that astronauts need during space travel easily and efficiently.

Hackathon Journey

We enjoyed the competition very much and got a good knowledge of it. I also learned how to work as a team, time management and leadership training very well. We also had the good experience and knowledge of our chosen challenge, as well as the honor of working with some of the world's most respected space exploration organizations.
