A sophisticated planting basin design that occupies a small space, works to provide basic food crops with the least possible resources and contains sustainable technologies to reach the highest level of efficiency.
We want the project investigation to be:
1- Rapid growth rate and consistency
2. No pests and diseases
3- Cultivation of different crops
4- Weight and space on the mission vehicle are important considerations
The system’s Plant Habitat Avionics Real-Time Manager in EXPRESS Rack, or PHARMER, will provide real-time data telemetry, remote commanding, and photo downlink to the team at Kennedy. The APH has an active watering system with sensors that will detect when the plants need water and keep water flowing as needed.

The Advanced Plant Habitat (APH), like Veggie, is a growth chamber on station for plant research. It uses LED lights and a porous clay substrate with controlled-release fertilizer to deliver water, nutrients, and oxygen to the plant roots.
But unlike Veggie, it is enclosed and automated with cameras and more than 180 sensors that are in constant interactive contact with a team on the ground at Kennedy, so it doesn’t need much day-to-day care from the crew. Its water recovery and distribution, atmosphere content, moisture levels, and temperature are all automated. It has more colors of LED lights than Veggie, with red, green, and blue lights, but also white, far-red and even infrared to allow for nighttime imaging.

This hackathon journey was an interesting trip and enriched us with a lot of new information. In the beginning, the team was formed and it was chosen to be diversified to have diverse and new ideas and benefit from all the information. Then the competition was chosen after we met and brainstormed And choose the appropriate idea that we can work on, and then the idea was worked on with the team for 3 continuous days, with the search for information in reliable sources. We benefited from this trip that I learned to think outside the box, work in a team, and learn new things. It was a nice and a useful experience

This project has been submitted for consideration during the Judging process.
A viable food system for long-duration exploration missions does not yet exist, but it will be necessary to maintain crew health and performance. Your challenge is to design a deployable crop production system capable of supporting the nutritional requirements of a crew of 4-6 on a transit mission to Mars and back to Earth.
