High-Level Project Summary

Landslides are major natural disasters that occur around the globe, causing huge economic losses, direct and indirect damages to infraestructure, and several casualities. Furthermore, urban expansion has potencially contributed the increase of risk associated with this phenomena, having a great impact in developing countries. Thus, we propose create an algorithm that uses Satellite data, in order to detect where did occur this phenomena and will allow us which areas are in danger. Finally, this tool will allow a quick detection of critical areas, carrying out this for decisions makers

Detailed Project Description

Figure 1. Landlslide in Peru . Source. Andina

In our country, Peru, has a very particular geology that makes it vulnerable to mass movement phenomena, over the last few years have been reported several landslides that damage and block roads, causing substantial economic losses, socially isolating communities and loss of human lives.

The project was born due to the lack of information to identify landslides in our region. The solution we are planning will allow decision makers to quickly identify scars of landslides and make an action plan to help the affected communities.

Using the Google earh engine as a tool, it will allow us to report probable landslide zones, for this we work with a main factor that will show us if there was any change in the terrain, which was the vegetation cover index.

Space Agency Data

We use data satellite and we learn how to geoproceses it, allowing us develop new knowledge
