Constructing International Relief Stations

High-Level Project Summary

We, the Poe team, chose the challenge of landslides because they cause so many damages that lead to huge economic and human losses. But the issue does not end at landslides, there are rock avalanches, and devastating floods as well. We decided to search for solutions for these problems by creating relief stations in all countries. These stations can expect landslides through NASA satellites. We will be able to find solutions for the problem of avalanches and rock avalanches by using mesh fences, concrete walls, or roboclimbers. We can solve floods by digging branches on the mountains to prevent water from concentrating in a specific part and benefiting from it.

Detailed Project Description

Relief stations will help us in dealing with the dangers of landslides, as it is planned to have a number to call if any signs appear that a landslide of various types is approaching, to work to evacuate residential areas, and to put barriers to protect homes and public property. The stations should work in communicating with the government to provide housing places for families whose homes were destroyed by the collapse. The station vehicles should be provided with first aid and the presence of paramedics to carry out the necessary first aid in the event of delays in ambulances. Low budgets will be set to build these stations so that all developing countries can build them as well.

Our idea works based on two parts, the first is to predict the problem before it occurs through several factors such as monitoring temperatures, wind direction and strength to avoid the dangers of landslide such as a devastating rockslide or avalanche, and following up on the expected rain through NASA’s JAXA programs to predict if there is Flooding after a certain period of time and trying to avoid it, as well as measuring soil materials and percentages of water, salt and acidity to predict landslides

As for the second part, it is the development of radical solutions to the problems that we face in landslides, such as placing steel mesh fences in an orderly manner on the tops of the mountains to change the course of the rocks to the desert away from the cities or over the tops of the icebergs to prevent the snow from descending heavily and placing concrete fences on the borders of the mountains above the ground To store the giant rocks behind these walls and dig waterways over the mountains that are exposed to intense rain to store water and use it when needed, and dry the saturated soil with infrared radiation.

The benefit will be that we will be able to predict landslides a while before they occur and learn from the mistakes that occurred in the landslides before that and avoid them and deal correctly with the landslides when they occur.

We hope that relief stations will be implemented in all countries around the world to take advantage of them against the dangers of landslides and prevent their dangers in the future once and for all.

Space Agency Data

We used the data of NASA satellites and available images to know the shapes of the mountains and their states from the peak, in order to try to determine if there is a mountain avalanche in dry areas near cities or an avalanche in icy places.

We used NASA's JAXA programs to determine the temperature, rain, and wind direction and their strength, that have a direct impact on the ground collapse, whether landslide or avalanche due to rain or temperature that rises as a result of global warming and causes melting of ice that raises the water level and increases the number and strength of floods and in some cases devastating avalanches as a result of the weakening of the crust.

The outer surface of the ice and air plays a key role in mountain avalanches, where the strength of the winds at the tops of the mountains is one of the main factors of occurrence of the rockslide phenomenon.

Hackathon Journey

It is a useful and nice experience that helped us to learn different research skills

we chose the challenge about landslides because it is one of the important topics and because of the damage it causes to too many people.

we followed the trial and application approach and then developed our project to be ready for usage.

we have experienced several setbacks and we cooperated to identify this problem and work on offering more than one solution and chose the most beneficial solution, which made us overcome this crisis together

I would like to thank everyone in our team, especially the leader . because they helped us generate great ideas and solutions to the difficult problems we faced to reach where we are now
