Smooth Earth

High-Level Project Summary

Challenge Landslides often interfere with the economic development of rural communities. My team with Smooth Earth suggests that the NASA should be in constant communication with communities with high risk of landslides, tracked with infrared or a signal of movements on the available satellites, in real time, send an alarm with sound by radio to the government of the country or community where the earthmoving will occur and install in all the central locations of the community and that the radio notify police and fire units to come to the rescue of possible victims. The principal benefits will be, to reduce deaths in rural places, to report the problem and the government will act on it.

Detailed Project Description

This project of Smooth Earth is to create a sound alarm system between the NASA and the communities that can or will be affected by landslides or other type of earth disaster. The way this project would work is by using the satellites of the NASA to provide information of danger to communities at risk of landslides. By developing this project, communities around the world could benefit from the warning of the NASA, so people at risk can have time to escape before the disaster happens. We hope to achieve as a team, to capture the enough attention to this issue that every year result in 25 to 50 deaths in the United States. The principal tool of the project is the NASA's Integrated Multi-satellitE Retrievals for GPM (IMERG) that provide useful information, and the GPM Constelation that consists of a number of satellites designed to unify and advance precipitation measurements from research and operational microwave sensors for delivering next-generation global precipitation data products.

Space Agency Data

We use the ideas and information given by the NASA's web page for example the Integrated Multi-satellitE Retrievals for GPM (IMERG), also the GPM Constelation and finally with the CDC landslides reports.

Hackathon Journey

The hackaton journey was a excelent experience, we learned that for a better life we also need to give ideas for the benefits of ourselves as for everyone, our inspiration was that is a real issue and is dangerous.

We used the NASA's complete landslide web page

Also we used the CDC reports of communities affected by landslides.

And also we used all kind of reference from google about the some technical definitions.
