Detailed Project Description

Our challenge is to design a mechanical separation device that can cut a parachute curl line, a bolt for an adapter ring or a cable, or release two parts from each other smoothly in space without pyrotechnics. As a team we created the Pionner one device

The mechanism of the device consists of the union of 2 cylinders at each end of the line, where a separator crosses in the middle as a fixer for the 2 tips to keep them together, the small separator will be subject to a firing line attached to one of the lines of suspension of the parachute itself, a solenoid will be activated to retract the pivot that stops the separator and thus when the parachute opens and the suspension line is tensioned, the separator will come out and the 2 cylinders at the ends of the lines will separate.

Space Agency Data

NASA provided us with very valuable information for the development of our project

So thank you nasa

Hackathon Journey

Very fun, exciting experience that made us get the best out of each one of us to contribute ideas, and work as a team, even from a distance, so I thank NASA for doing this type of challenge, they bring out the best in us

The experience was refreshing and motivating, working with people we don't usually hang out with was encouraging, seeing how like-minded minds come together to generate a project that will have a positive impact on the aerospace industry was fascinating. Engineers don't usually talk about their work or what they do with people because they wouldn't understand them, but in this working group we definitely felt understood, with communication and technicalities that we were familiar with, engaging in conversations in a space where we were all following the thread was satisfying.

The remoteness, the coupling of work by digital means was an element that from the beginning we did not know how it was going to work, but that little by little was generating more and more synergy, which over time, was only increasing. The solution is simply to communicate in a timely manner, any need, opinion or suggestion must be taken into account.

This gives us a feeling of belonging, which is essentially what should exist in any work group.

We would like to give special thanks to two great people who gave us their support, time and advice so that this project could be carried out, at least in the planning stage:

Francisco Javier Rendón Lemus, Eng. MSc Victor Manuel Navarro

These mentors were very helpful and frinedly, explained clearly and gave experienced advice.
