High-Level Project Summary

Our vision for our system is for capsules coming out of orbit into the atmosphere to slow them down and detach from the capsule without using any pyrotechnics and try to minimise the bang.Our system will look a little bit like a fishing rod spool, where when the capsule needs to slow down it opens a tray with the spool and parachute, while the parachute deployed the reefing line un wraps from the spool. When the parachute is fully deployed the reefing line snaps the tray and spool off the capsule.

Detailed Project Description

Our system will look a little bit like a fishing rod spool, where when the capsule needs to slow down it opens a tray with the spool and parachute, while the parachute deployed the reefing line un wraps from the spool. When the parachute is fully deployed the reefing line snaps the tray and spool off the capsule.  To make sure we don’t damage the environment with this equipment we drop during decent the tray and parachute have a built in waterproof micro chip so we can reuse the equipment in future missions.


Why we chose this system is because it’s the simplest eco friendly and can reduce prices of parachute release systems using simple technology it also does not use pyrotechnics, it can also open a new window to the space industry by making cheaper options for the uprising public space industry.

Hackathon Journey

The experience was great, unfortunately, I was only informed about the event on a short notice and could therefore not dedicate more time. I learned a lot about the problems and area's that NASA is still facing when sending people or equipment to space. The reason to choose this challenge was that I thought of a solution the minute I read the problem statement. I would like to thank my familyor for helping me with testing my prototype and demo
