Script Ocean Plastic Debris

High-Level Project Summary

A scrip was developed, which is provided by NASA satellites, the data sent by the satellites are sent to a database which an AI divides them depending on the level of microplastic concentration in each area. This Project solves the challenge because the data provided by NASA are used in conjunction with an AI, to monitor, detect and quantify microplastic contamination, in addition to contributing the knowledge obtained to increase our understanding of the use of these techniques for this purpose. It is important because many times, the user pays more attention to the areas with large amounts of microplastic concentration and the areas with smaller amounts go unnoticed.

Detailed Project Description

These scripts are based on the new data technique from NASA's Cyclone Global Navigation Satellite System (CYGNSS), a constellation of eight small satellites that measures wind speeds above Earth’s oceans and provides information about the strength of hurricanes, due to the scientists found that microplastics tended to be present in smoother waters, demonstrating that CYGNSS data can be used as a tool to track ocean microplastic from space. After receiving this data, it is uploaded to a database, where the AI takes this data and divides it into different concentration levels, which are displayed on the map.

Space Agency Data

We use the chlorophyll dataset to determinate ocean currents this help us to the determinate the movement of plastic debris

Hackathon Journey

This experience was a new challenge to all my team because we haven't experience at all about the topic of our challenge we are gratefull to our tutor to give us advices and the oportunity of learning new things.
