High-Level Project Summary

Our proposal lies in an electronic device that applies Artificial Intelligence to detect polluting materials or waste for its respective monitoring and location, using a network of smart posts along the perimeter of the coast, also supported by a drone capable of obtaining much better field of vision over the sea, these data are uploaded to the internet, and then displayed on a mobile application that is adapted for its usability on the web. This project is dedicated to the preservation of seas and oceans against the polluting agents present by the bad disposal of garbage and waste in different ways.

Detailed Project Description

Our project stands out in the use of Artificial Intelligence by computer vision for the collection of specific data, which implies in that sense analyzing the pollution seen in the sea (bottles, boxes, bags, masks) for programming we rely on the Python language and Open CV.

This is possible thanks to the placement of smart poles for data collection and analysis, to extend our purpose of recycling and points of contamination we will use drones with the same device. Likewise, we will proceed to collect them at geolocated points to locate ourselves on a map, we will also integrate an app developed in Flutter for recyclers, where they can see the closest collection points. This will detect some hazardous wastes in the oceanic area which are inaccessible to citizens, therefore this information will be displayed in a Dashboard to the relevant authorities for collection and cleaning.

The impact that our project will have is to be able to contribute and actively promote the culture of recycling on the busiest beaches in the country and in the world, likewise; Pollution can be reduced and therefore marine life improved.

Hackathon Journey

The experience in this hackathon was something unique and it helped us to improve our skills as a team, to be more effective when solving the challenges that arose, the coordination between teams makes us strong and the commitment and desire to be able to get the project forward.

On the other hand, we chose the challenge of "LEAVE AI / ML FOR PLASTIC MARINE DEBRIS" due to the great pollution and mismanagement about how to dispose of waste, as a team and as human beings we see ourselves in the power to face it and propose a solution to the world in order to have a positive impact on marine life and its surroundings.

This also leads us to create awareness and inspiration for our environment and have a cleaner planet.
