Leveraging AI/ML for plastic marine debris

High-Level Project Summary

Our project was developed with the basic intention of carrying out the mapping of sea coasts using sensor bags with micro computers connected to a mesh network where the status of each monitored area is informed in real time in relation to the degree of pollution and the need for supervision.

Detailed Project Description

In our project, we will use Bags that continuously collect existing floating marine waste, and we will deploy a sensor system connected to a mesh network where each bag will connect to the nearest bag, sending level signals and its geographic address.


Through the level measured on the Bag, we will know and train our machine learning system to identify areas of high pollution and inform coastal teams where they are having a high demand for cleaning

Space Agency Data

We will use sensing and geographic positioning systems, not counting the latest technologies in networks and solar energy capture for the correct functioning of the micro computers embedded in each bag with the Mesh device

Hackathon Journey

The Hackathon encourages everyone to do a lot of research on topics that are important to everyone, and to bring new solutions to make the future of our next generations better than it is today!


We chose the theme "Leveraging AI/ML for plastic marine debris" because we believe that we still have a lot to do and solve here on earth, even though external solutions are of great use.


We would like to thank the organizers of the event in our city, especially Leka Hattori and Miriam for dedicating themselves and taking their time to bring this event to our attention.
