H.U.E.- Heuristic Unified Environment

High-Level Project Summary

Space missions involve time, effort, and resources. Ergo, it is extremely essential for all intellectuals involved to communicate on a verified and secure platform, so that they can look at samples (any kind) collected, analyze them, and discuss their findings and hypothesis. The creation of such a platform, is not necessarily a pipedream, and we have worked towards building the same. Our web application allows users to create their console logs, and have real-time collaboration with other scientists and professionals. Not only will this facilitate in internal organizational communication, but it will also have documentational benefit, easier record keeping and information handling.

Detailed Project Description

Our project is a log entry system, that can seamlessly allow user input to be logged and viewed as in when the user wants through different filtering mechanisms (time/topic/author). Users can view the timestamp and date when the users entered a log, Pin logs and view them on demand, able to change their channels/topics of entry easily, be able to input different media (video/audio/text) and approve their logs before submitting. The user can use the form on the bottom left, to pin certain logs on demand. By choosing a topic from the left menu, the user can choose which channel/project/topic they want to contribute to. The users can type their discussion, or upload videos/audios on the system, and approve their submission using the submit button. The upload can happen through the upload icon next to the text box.

This web application solves the problem of keeping track of different discussions for the organization and is an easy log entry system. We have coded the front-end ourselves, using HTML and CSS, and used Firebase as the backend. We then collaborated through GitHub, so that all of us could work on different components easily. Our hope is to create a safe, verified, and trusted logging applications, that prevents access to unauthorized personnel, and provide easy real-time collaboration for all professional using is simultaneously.

Space Agency Data

Since it is not the requirement of our project, we have not used any data perse, from space agencies. We have although, browsed through recent research done by NASA, to give initial headings for our topics. Our project has been inspired by the Apollo in real time feed, and we have attempted to create a similar, simpler, logging system (our project doesn’t include live-stream or transcription features). We have also taken inspiration from the resources provided to us for this challenge, in order to channelize our development.

Hackathon Journey

Our Space Apps Journey was nothing short of a roller-coaster. While we figured out how to complete one component of our application, we still had others to complete. We had entered the hackathon with a notion to create application, and amongst the challenges, that gave us the opportunity to do so, we liked the concept of real-time collaboration, and security and transparency on the organizational platform the most. Our approach to develop for this challenge was objective. We chose a feature we wanted, then tried to understand how to implement it, and noting down software and hardware requirements that we would further have.

When we got stuck for any feature and faced a few hiccups, we would take some time, think about the objective, requirements, implementation method and necessity of the feature, and then regrouped and worked together to find a way out. We used the official documentation of software/guides while development, and even relied on wonderfully educative YouTube videos. Thank you for all those educators and developers who provided these resources to us.
