Debris Visualization App

High-Level Project Summary

I am building a visualization web app which displays and locates every known debris object orbiting Earth, in real time. Multiple collections of debris can be displayed and tracked at the same time. The app canhelp to tell what is floating in the sky above you.

Detailed Project Description

I downloaded a few collections of debris data sets from the CelesTrak website and the International Space Station facts and figures from NASA website. The web app display these collection of debris in real time on a 3D interactive globe using React Three Fibre. With the app, we can tell what and how many of these debris floating in our sky.

I developed this app in a cloud VM. I found an open source project which displays geospatial objects. It is developed using nodejs, React and Gatsby frameworks.

Space Agency Data

NASA's International Space Station Facts and Figures

CelesTrak's Debris data sets

Hackathon Journey

I am curious about the amout of debris floating in the sky. Obviously the situation is worse than I can imagine. I started with just an idea that displaying those debris on a 3D app. Then I added the International Space Station facts and figures. The one thing that I have learnt is the orbital coordinate systems.
