Detailed Project Description
Our project combines the open data provided by NASA and other existing tools and technologies to locate areas in the risk of flood in the years to come and to find viable ways for flood prevention.
Space Agency Data
There were many resources available for us to use. First of all, the Aqueduct floods tool, which we used in order to detect the most exposed areas and cities to the flood risk. We also utilized the SEDAC map viewer tool, which uses the, available by NASA, open data, so that it can project a map with the population density of any area globally. Another useful tools were the EPI (Environmental Performance Index) Forestry, the data for urban expansion probabilities coming from PNAS (Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences), the data for global flood total economic loss risk, the mortality risk, hazard frequency provided by CHRR (Center of Hazard and Risk Research). With these tools available, our team was able to locate the most vulnerable, by floods, populations on Earth in an effort to concentrate our exertions and save human lives and resources.
