EVENNESS (The Blue Nerds)

High-Level Project Summary

Our solution, Evenness, deploy alarming nods networked through urban or civilized areas where it signals to alarm the people about the possible or potential predicted climate risks. We collect data from EOSDIS (Earth Observing System Data and Information System) and other trusted sources then analyze and traffic the alarm signals to the deployed nodes. Our nodes designed to be intuitive independent on the education level and self-power-supplied through solar cells system. Evenness nodes, signal for main five climate associated events .

Detailed Project Description

INTRODUCTION

The World Bank estimates that almost half of the world's population, about 2.8 billion, live on less than $2! And that means, the richest nations is 37 times higher than that of the poorest 20 nations.

WHAT WE ARE TRYING TO SOLVE?

We are, Evenness, believe that the equality is a basic right for all societies. For that, we focus to aid the poor societies with custom technologies fit their living style to ensure their protection against global warming and climate change.

WHAT IS OUR SOLUTION?

The solution, Evenness, deploy alarming nods networked through urban or civilized areas where it signals to alarm the people about the possible or potential predicted climate risks.

We collect data from EOSDIS (Earth Observing System Data and Information System) and other trusted sources then analyze and traffic the alarm signals to the deployed nodes.

Our nodes designed to be intuitive independent on the education level and self-power-supplied through solar cells system. Evenness nodes, signal for main five climate associated events which are: (see table-1)

-      Floods, rains, torrents

-      Hurricanes, Strong winds

-      Above average heat, below average cold, very high temperature, very low temperature

-      Active volcano, volcano eruption

TECHNICAL OUTLOOKS:

1)   EVENNESS general arrangement:

As shown in figure-1, Evenness consists of mainly three parts as a node. The pole, solar cells, siren and the node box that involves the electronics. The details are described in Table-2

Table-2: General Arrangement Assembly

2)   EVENNESS communication and network topology:

The nodes communicate with the gateway via LoRAWAN protocol. The gateway exchanges the traffic with the Data Handling Server through Internet TCP/IP protocol. The Data Handling Server manages the data that has been collected from different trusted sources such as EOSDIS. Based on the collected data, the server might use AI and ML, when necessary, in order to contribute in sending the alarming evet to the deployed nodes in the urbans and the civilized areas. Figure-2 details the communication and network topology.

CONCLUSION:

The solution we offered, is technically realistic as it utilizes an existing services and products available in the market. We assume that this solution is extremely sheep when comparing to the other obstacles that the poor societies encounter from political, educational and individual income aspects. However, to verify the assumption, we need to further invest and search the market, which is not possible currently due to short submission deadline (48 hours). We believe that this is just a start of a long journey toward our ultimate goal which is to aid the poor societies with custom technologies fit their living style to ensure their protection against global warming and climate change.

Hackathon Journey

How would you describe your Space Apps experience?

It was full of learning process, we got exposed to lots of facts, a scary facts.

What did you learn?

If I was asked to give only one thing I've learned from this journey, it would be that: Other people and next generation WILL suffer if we don't take any correction action.. starting from today.

What inspired your team to choose this challenge?

The tragedy that the poor nations lives with while the richest nation (which caused the problem initially) leveraged with the advance technology that helps them to protect their people. Come on! we live in the same EARTH!

What was your approach to developing this project?

Putting ourselves in the side of the poor nations, and think of what we need to keep our people save by utilizing NASA's open data.

How did your team resolve setbacks and challenges?

BY THE POWER OF THE TEAM WORK!

Is there anyone you'd like to thank and why?

Saudi Space Commission for sponsoring this event and organizing it.
