Man-made disasters, natural disasters or huge climate change may cause disasters to society. In comparison, people in marginalized areas are more vulnerable to negative effects. After the disaster, they can’t get enough resources because of the unfair treatment by the government. Therefore, we can encourage some large companies to hold charities or do some donations. Also, we can use some technologies in non-marginalized areas, such as NASA Earth Observation, the visualization of the water balance will help better manage these resources. Therefore, the government can combine this technology to accurately distribute materials, and it helps them reduce waste, save time and energy.
This project explains"what is environmental injustice" "what can cause negative impacts of marginalized communities" "what are those effects" "how to deal with them" "what might happen when solving the problems". And it can help other people to understand the facts better with clear explanation, multi-angle analysis and reasonable solutions. We hope this unfair phenomenon can be seen by more people, and start from ourselves to reduce environmental pollution. We searched the Internet for environmental injustice investigation reports from 1950 to 2021, and combined with the similarities of these reports, we found that among the many solutions, the government issued a policy that is the most common, and the execution power is not very high. This may indicate that not everyone abides by this law, and there are protesters. The whole process is done on our electronic devices.

This experience is very memorable, we spent a lot of time ( 2 days) on researching and taping informations about the marginalized communities in the environmental injustice, and the negative impacts brought by natural disasters. We had more deep understanding on the “racism” ,“marginalized communities” and “environmental injustice.” We also learned more about the negative impacts brought by climate changes and natural disasters by using NASA Earth Observation data, especially to the marginalized communities. We chose this challenge as we wanted to make more people to know the problem of “environmental injustice” , and we also wanted to learn more about the climate changes and those impacts it brought to us. During this experience, we used Microsoft Word and PowerPoint to demonstrate our understanding and solutions. In addition, many pictures and data are used as well from the Google and the Resources tab provided by NASA. We learned to be patient as we need to read a large amount of information, make a lot of thinking and writing to get the final solution. We met many new knowledges, such as “environmental injustice” , we thought that we should focus more about natural disasters as we are not very sure what is the exact meaning of this phrase. However, after searching and studying, we eventually understand what is “environmental injustice” and we may have clear logical about the solution. We have to thanks for ourselves firstly, thanks for nice teamwork and cooperation and let us to enjoy a lot from this experience, then we have to thanks to our parents encourage us to attend this competition. At the end, thanks to NASA with you excellent designs on the website, it’s clear and help us a lot on how to do it and understand this competition more.

This project has been submitted for consideration during the Judging process.
Marginalized communities are often disproportionately impacted by environmental hazards. Your challenge is to use NASA's Earth observation data to: 1) identify regions where such environmental injustice occurs, and 2) design implementable solutions that enable equitable outcomes.
