High-Level Project Summary
Air pollution is a mixture of solid particles and gases in the air, Car emissions, chemicals from factories, dust, pollen, and mold spores may be suspended as particles. Factory outlet smoke takes a major part in air pollution in cities. Our Solution is to this air-polluting issue that Sulfur dioxide (SO2) occurs, to come with an innovative idea to help mother earth. So as a team we had been decided to invent “S.O.T.E”. What is “S.O.T.E”- Sulfur dioxide to Oxygen Transferring Experiment. When Sulfur dioxide (SO2) is input to the “S.O.T.E” it outputs Oxygen (O2). This is its process simply.

- Air pollution is a mixture of solid particles and gases in the air, Car emissions, chemicals from factories, dust, pollen, and mold spores may be suspended as particles. Car emission takes a major part of air pollution in cities. Nitrous oxide(N2O), Argon(Ar), Carbon dioxide(CO2), Sulfur dioxide(SO2), Methane(CH4) are some of them.
- At high concentrations, Sulfur dioxide (SO2) can harm trees and plants by damaging foliage and decreasing growth, either can contribute to acid rain which can harm sensitivity.
- Our Solution is to this air-polluting issue that Sulfur dioxide (SO2) occurs, to come with an innovative idea to help mother earth. So as a team, we had been decided to invent “S.O.T.E”
- What is “S.O.T.E”- Sulfur dioxide to Oxygen Transferring Experiment. When Sulfur dioxide (SO2) is input to the “S.O.T.E” it outputs Oxygen (O2). This is its process simply. Let’s find out what are steps that “S.O.T.E” is following to translate Sulfur dioxide (SO2) into Oxygen (O2) through its process.
(1) FIRST STAGE
• 10000c heat in the Heating plate and the Pressure making structure at the beginning of
the “S.O.T.E” helps to temporarily break down Sulfur dioxide (SO2) molecules that are coming from the smoke outlet tunnel in the factory to Sulfur monoxide (SO) and to Oxygen (O2).
(2) SECOND STAGE
• After the temporarily break down completes the Smoke Detector detects the SO + O2
mixed smoke and gives a signal to the first tube that is full of Calcium hydroxide [Ca(OH)2] to spray up Ca(OH)2. Then Ca(OH)2 absorbs Sulfur monoxide (SO) in the smoke and outputs only O2. So from that way, we can make O2 permanently.
(3) THIRD STAGE
• In the third stage we have fixed an Oxygen sensor (1) to capture if Oxygen passes
through the tube,
- 1) If Oxygen passes only – Only Oxygen (O2) will be distributed to the
- environment.
- 2) If Oxygen passes with Sulfur monoxide (SO) – Ca(OH)2 will be again sprayed
- from the upper tube full of Ca(OH)2, so Oxygen will only be distributed to the environment.
(4) FOURTH STAGE
- At the end of the tube, we have been fixed another Oxygen sensor (2) to find out if
- Sulfur monoxide (SO) has passed out from the machine and the amount of Oxygen that
- has been distributed to the environment out from the machine.
- And the sensor readings will be analyzed in a manner and will be uploaded to a Local
- DataBase. So we can retrieve the Data through the Local Data Base.

- The first question we had to face through this challenge is to identify the gas most harmful after the traditional gases and what solution would be better for it.
- After the solution was decided we had a matter with what name would be better and meaning full for our machine.
- Although we have been fixed those matters, step by step as a team.
- And came with a brilliant solution.
