TEAM STAMFORD CSE66

Dengue Prevention and Cleaning System

High-Level Project Summary

400 million peoples around the world are getting infected with dengue virus every year. Dhaka is also suffering because of pollution. Our Goal is to reduce the mosquito habitats and clean the Dhaka city using OpenStreetMap API and Nasa Globe Data For Mosquito Habitat. So we created a user based cleaning system, where user can mark the dirtiest areas on map. That data will be collected by our system. So we don't need to take the hassle of finding the polluted place every time. Then our volunteer users will clean those marked areas. After cleaning they will mark the area as cleaned on map.

Detailed Project Description

Hello, We are the students of Stamford University Bangladesh. Bringing to all the new solution of preventing dengue mosquito's habitat. Also, Providing the idea of quick cleaning solution of our city to reduce dengue and all kinds of mosquito related problems.

400 million peoples around the world are getting infected with dengue virus every year. Pollution of the city and stuck water is creating large impact on mosquito habitat. Most of them can be simply avoided by reducing the mosquito habitat. For that reason we need proper & fast cleaning solution.

When we are creating this project, more than 200 patients hospitalized just because of dengue in last 24 hours. So our team will take the responsibility of reducing the dengue mosquito habitat of the Dhaka City. We are using OpenStreetMap and Nasa Globe Data for mosquito habitat on our project.

We have two ideas. First one is user based cleaning solution. Second one is priority cleaning based on user reports.

At the first we need to work on the report of local people. Local people will directly report to us using our system. Based on the report, our volunteer will be able to identify the reported places, which needs cleaning. After the cleaning that place, they will mark that place as cleaned. So we don't need to take the hassle of finding the polluted place every time.

Also we have the future plan of divide the Dhaka city into 7 separate zones using map OpenStreetMap API. The main idea of this separation is to provide a weekly cleaning solution to the each zone.

Our cleaner team of city corporation will work one day of a week in each zone. Also based on reported data, if we find more than 25% reports from a zone than others. We will send our team to that zone using priority basis. This will help us to provide a quick clean solution for our city.

Space Agency Data

Nasa Earth Data - Diseases Data Pathfinder: https://earthdata.nasa.gov/learn/pathfinders/diseases-data-pathfinder

Nasa Globe Data For Mosquito Habitat: https://vis.globe.gov/mosquitohabitats

OpenStreetMap: https://www.openstreetmap.org/

OpenStreetMap:

For our map implementation and geographic data data of the world we choose an open source map provider, And OpenStreetMap is one the best Open Source Map. So here we use OpenStreetMap API. We use leaflet also for Interactive map.

Nasa Earth Data - Diseases Data pathfinder: We got the idea of using NASA data for our project. Using globe data we get the most affected areas of mosquito habitat.

Hackathon Journey

As IT enthusiast each of us got a great opportunity to test our skills and experience new technologies that we never experienced before by attending this hackathon organized by NASA. Besides new technologies, we learned the very basics of developing and managing a successful project including time management and team work. Our project is about Preventing dengue and taking necessary steps to clean dengue affected area in Dhaka city. Recently, The whole country is suffering from this disease besides the covid-19 pandemic. A new disease besides the already present pandemic really made a great fear amongst the whole population. Then we started to think of a solution that can less their fear at least. This was our inspiration and as of it we decided to build this kind of system. As the time was not that much long, we had to follow the agile development approach.

Thanks NASA for giving the opportunity to share our idea.
