High-Level Project Summary
We built a factory methane gas leak warning system through satellites that can detect greenhouse gases. Methane is a very dangerous gas for our world, needs to be taken precautions and is difficult to detect with the naked eye. This shows that it is very important to prevent methane gas from entering the atmosphere.

Detailed Project Description
Our project can alert the factory and its workers on time by using satellite datas.
We created a diagram to visualize our solution stages. As you can see in the diagram below, our solution consists of 4 stages. The first stage is measuring. Measurements will be made through satellite data, which can detect the greenhouse gases that we mentioned before and which we think will have more numbers and measurement precision in the near future. The data obtained as a result of this measurement will be evaluated in a data processing center around the world. If there is an increase in methane gas caused by leakage in any factory, the processing center will activate the alarm system of the said factory. If there is a situation that may adversely affect the health of the people around the factory, the people there will be warned by the processing center. Finally, the leak will be safely and quickly brought under control by the authorities.
Since 2009, satellites, including the use of NASA, have been measuring Earth's essential and greenhouse gases for air conditioning. But this race is not planned to use a valve to build at the factory, to plan its aims all over the world.
Despite this, the satellite Claire is one of the first representatives of a smaller, cheaper generation of spacecraft currently in space, ready to launch or on the drawing board. Claire shows methane using wavelengths of light, thanks to a device (camera) called an "imaging spectrometer." This device added to the new generation satellites; It can measure ultraviolet, near-infrared, or short-wave infrared rays from the Sun by bouncing them back from Earth. There are different gases that absorb wavelengths in this light. With this method, they can determine what amount of gas is present in a certain location. Short-wave infrared is used to measure the amount of methane.
As you know, greenhouse gases are a great danger to our world and the global problems that this danger may pose make us worry about the future. While we are all exposed to these problems, some communities are more affected. Factory leaks are one of the most important reasons for the emission of methane, which is the most dangerous among greenhouse gases, into the atmosphere. If
these leaks are not noticed, it can cause permanent health problems for the people of the region where the leak occurs.
Space Agency Data
GHGSat is the global leader in high-resolution remote-sensing of greenhouse gas from space – an approach it pioneered – and provides unique emissions data and intelligence to businesses, governments, regulators, and investors worldwide, to optimize their performance and uphold environmental standards.
On our project we use GHGSat datas to detect the leak with Claire Satellite and Sentinel-5P which works for ESA.
ESA dedicated to the peaceful exploration and use of space for the benefit of everyone. Established in 1975, we now have 22 Member States and for more than 40 years we have promoted European scientific and industrial interests in space.
Hackathon Journey
We had so much fun during this time and learned a lot of things about satelittes, space agencies, using satellite datas to solve a enviromental problem. So we would like to thank Spaceapps for this opportunity and also we would like to thank SAC TURKEY. They helped us during this weekend. It was a nice experience.
