Virtual Museum Of Space Exploration: Edition Mars.

High-Level Project Summary

Our project proposes the creation of a virtual and immersive museum which exposes in a playful way, information related to space exploration, to make it accessible to the general public. In this virtual museum, users will have the opportunity to learn about the technology used for space exploration, through computer-generated simulations based on data obtained from NASA.This project is important because it exposes complex scientific information in a creative way, making it accessible and entertaining to the general public. In addition, the future potential of our project is reflected in the possibility of increasing the number of virtual spaces in the future.

Detailed Project Description

Website: http://virtualmuseumofspaceexploration.earth/#

The first version of our virtual museum will have a Mars-inspired theme, the technology used and simulations of explorations based on real events, such as those of a hypothetical future. Users will be able to access this virtual space, tour the space robot exhibit and experience first-hand the simulations of Mars tours of these advanced and highly technological devices designed for space exploration. We want people to be able to access and understand scientific information in an interactive, immersive and playful way, using Extended Reality as the axis and format of interaction, in this case, through the simulation of a virtual reality.

The pandemic has revitalized interest in science and renewed attention to STEM education, with 60% of the world's population feeling more inspired to pursue STEM careers because of the pandemic. New technologies make it possible to create interactive learning spaces capable of transforming the way information is assimilated and understood, contributing directly to people's ability to remember and encouraging self-learning.

All the resources and software used to develop this project were: Unity, Oculus Quest 2, 3D Max, Adobe Illustrator, GoDaddy, Google Suite, Miro and SketchFab. The following programming languages were used: C#, Html5, Js and Json.

Space Agency Data

The resources used from space agencies were: Solar System Treks from Mars, Nasa 3D Models, Nasa Science Mars, Nasa Trek, Nasa Jet Propulsion Laboratory. We used information from Mars missions, features and 3D models of equipment and landscapes.

This information helped us understand the greatness and importance of space exploration to our mission of becoming a multi-planetary species.

Hackathon Journey

Our participation was an enriching experience that leaves us satisfied for making us contribute to science outreach and inspire others to explore space from their homes. We have learned how to use new tools that NASA provides to visualize data, such as all the data on Mars. We had to learn about the rovers, their history and the contribution they make to facilitate the evolutionary path of our species.

We were inspired by the fact that we could contribute in some way to space science. We are very enthusiastic about scientific knowledge related to the universe and we are pleased to be able to be so close through such an important hackathon. The project was born from a more artistic and interactive side that little by little was transformed into an exhibition space of space exploration where you can simulate Martian exploration missions. Finally we created a simulation and virtual learning game. With a lot of communication and patience to land well the ideas, none of the team has experience in creating games and we had to give space to our creativity to give us a good idea. We would like to thank everyone involved in the organization of the event and their effort to give us a space where we could learn more about the work of NASA and space agencies.
