Space Game E410

High-Level Project Summary

We have developed a game that lets player to learn new things and have fun at the same time because we think that at the moment games with space elements are still not so educational, but more for entertaining. This game could have a lot of game play to be added, including the ability for player to explore the map of a planet freely, to use the in-game money that is available for the player to plan a project efficiently, or to use the resources available to build a reasonable building or even a vehicle to cope with the extreme and dangerous conditions of space. This is very important because we believe that games are not only just an entertainment tool, but an educational tool for a new era.

Background and setting of the gamestory (Fictional)

In the year 2040, Earth is depleted of energy due to severe environmental pollution and in order to save the planet, humans are heading to space to search for renewable resources. The first destination is the moon, and so a rocket code-named E410, begins to fly...

Space Agency Data

We have tried to find some information about the requirements, ways, types of plant that is suitable to be planted in space and etc.. here. Although we didn't manage to find most of the information we need but it did inspire us about how hard for us to plant in space and some necessary things needed for us to plant in space. (Such as plant incubators and light)

This open data also gave us a lot information about some landscapes of Moon, and other planets. They all are definitely very useful for us since we have never been to space.

These solar system treks are also very useful for our work in doing maps of the game because a interesting and good maps are definitely important for player to explore and gain informative knowledge from game.

And because of this solar system treks, we have decided to make a game with a map that players can walk themselves and explore but not a game that only focus on making strategies .

Hackathon Journey

Titanium(Tiong)

This was actually the first time I heard about this challenge and the first time I participated in this type of challenge/competition. On the 29th August my English teacher forwarded some information about this competition (Briefing on 27th August one). I had learned a little bit of Javascript and html (although basically I couldn't build a complete system because I didn't really apply them to make anything) and I'm glad that I didn't think too much about it and asked my friends if they wanted to join the competition because I really learned a lot of new things in the process and at the last. We didn't go through all the details of the challenges when we chose them because we were a bit lazy so we just went straight to choose a game development challenge (since we all like games). At that time we basically don't know how to develop games and had no experience in game development, so it was quite a big challenge for us. Although actually we were thinking to make a 3D game but our computer wasn't very powerful and I think 3D is still way more difficult than 2D, so we turned to thinking for the 2D game ideas. I first got into game development nearly a year ago and I was using the Unity Game Engine that time too, but I didn't have a clue on game developing with Unity, so I just gave up and didn't open it for a long period. This time, I'm

really surprised that I've been able to make a game that's at least playable already, although It's definitely not a 3A game, but I'm happy that I've managed to get my head around it and get close to finishing a game.

I'm really grateful to everyone here, whether it's my teammates, mentors, Local Lead (Teacher Teo), parents, family, and all friends for helping me out and wishing me well.

I had a lot of fun with this challenge. This challenge has allowed me to try a lot of new things and I feel very satisfied when designing pixel game characters and settings. It especially gave me a great sense of accomplishment when I drew something that I was very happy with. I am very thankful for this contest, my friends who invited me and my family who supported me. I hope to participate in a similar competition with my peers next time.

I learn many technique such as video editing, building app, game developing and speaking. I think it is beneficial for me for the whole journey.
