Virtual reality and vertical wind tunnel for space simulation

High-Level Project Summary

Space is endlessly fascinating, but there are many challenges to space exploration that must be overcome. The tremendous distances, lack of navigational aids, difficulties of launch and landing, limited and delayed communications, cosmic ray environment, and very high costs of changing speed and direction are many obstacles to be overcome, so Our project helps to develop the knowledge of those interested in space exploration and paving the way for their dreams, and those who do not have enough knowledge about space by discovering their passion for space and learning more in an interesting way.

Detailed Project Description

*****Link to Final Project works on the " Oculus Quest "

Our project is a game that simulates space, specifically the solar system, using virtual reality techniques and "a vertical wind tunnel" ( Real, follow the demo to see the realistic design).

Indoor flotation is a simulation of real free fall conditions in a vertical wind tunnel,

A wind tunnel is a high fidelity device where giant fans far away from the flight chamber circulate air at speeds of up to 200 miles per hour. There fans are housed at the top of the building, generating wind which is then circulated down to the ground floor before being forced back up by the turning vanes which direct the airflow. The inlet compresses the air and creates the speed we need to fly.

All of this means that we can simulate the experience of free falling when you floating (zero gravity). It's where the dream of floating in space becomes a reality.

Free fall simulation

We use Virtual reality headset and touch controllers in simulating space in conjunction with the game, which aims to apply what technology has reached in the world to attract the largest number of interested people and provide the opportunity for others to learn about astronomy and space science as well, as it sees useful and interesting information about each planet within the game.

We hope to inspire generations of children with the ambition to become astronauts and live their dream through our game.

The program was used to develop the project :

UNITY, VISUAL STUDIO CODE

Blender

Space Agency Data

NASA data for the solar system was used, and the data in the game was used to mention details such as distance from the sun, mass, planet colors, number of moons, and interesting information about planets to help players get to know the planets better.

Hackathon Journey

Our experience with the hackathon is beautiful and inspiring. We learned a lot from the NASA website during the project work and learned the spirit of cooperation between the team. He inspired us with this challenge because there is an opportunity to develop a game that helps those interested in space explore space, develop their knowledge, and pave the way for their dreams.

We used the analytical approach to develop the project, and we overcame the difficulties and challenges with the help of each team, and I want to thank all the team members for their outstanding work on this project.
