High-Level Project Summary

We are developing a space travel video game which will be accessible for everyone. By playing our game people will get both entertained and learn about space at the same time.The game will contain multiple segments or stages. To pass each stage player will have to pass various obstacles and will have an exciting adventure from start to finish. Our game will provide the thrill of space travelling via virtual reality while at the same time will educate it's player about space travelling.

Detailed Project Description

In this time and age, people are leaning towards new discoveries of science as much as they are devoting themselves to science. In this case, there is no end to the curiosity among the people about space. 


After learning how to fly, it did not take long for them to fly. People are now building livable space stations in space. They are observing and conducting research on earth from there. They are working relentlessly to transform the world into a livable space. What was once a dream for humans now has become reality and they keep pushing the boundaries to make the best of their discoveries.


Humans' curiosity about space has no end. It is their dream to go out in space and see the world from there. But not everyone holds the capability to go there. Those who are incapable of experiencing this astonishing phenomena , they can now experience the phenomena via virtual reality .In virtual reality , the possibilities are endless...And the endless possibility can be observed if we look at the current examples of games , movies etc. People now can experience space via virtual reality and video games can serve as a platform to experience this phenomena..


The reason we are choosing a video game as a platform is because it can provide four main things at once . They are immersion , entertainment , learning experience and story . Via video games we can create a fully realized world which can be explorable, observable and most importantly people will get immersed into the world like they are actually having this experience in real time.. That’s why we choose to make a space game. By playing our game people will be able to learn about space and experience the space at the same time.


We are planning to make a space game with quality animation , current information about space which will be acquired from NASA and coherent visuals. We are going to make sure to make this game accessible for everyone so that everyone can get entertained and learn something about space by playing our game.

We will be developing this game using the UNITY engine and we will use Blender for 3D modelling because we are planning to make our game in 3D.

The game will be divided into multiple segments, which we can call stages or steps. To pass each stage, players will have to come up with good strategies to reach the next stage. We will make sure each stage contains enough adventure , action , puzzle and fun contents to hold the player's attention to the end.

The game will begin by starting acquiring knowledge about space and participating in some spectacular events in between.


The player will be considered as an astronaut. Firstly, to get selected to go into space, the game will contain some tests about science and mathematics which the player will have to pass. 

Later the player will gain more knowledge about space by travelling to different countries and acquiring papers and documents from many universities and institutes around the world. We will make the visual both exciting and educational. The player who is able to collect more paper will get more points. In this segment the player will be able to send his ideas and innovation directly to NASA . The player will also be able to gain data on space from NASA.


Then the player's training session will start after reaching NASA's headquarters. This segment will contain lots of challenging quests such as taking part in an adventure , participating in physical exercises, exams to test a player's iQ. ,

If the player passes the training session then the player will get selected for riding a rocket. Plate will have to use their learning experience to reach space which will also involve space physics , acceleration , gravity etc by using which player has to take the rocket into space safely. At the beginning of the space travel player will also participate in aircraft race , flying contest using various types of vehicles etc which we will be presenting in ecitin visuals.


The next step will contain space riding and launching which will be provided to the player in high quality animation to give better experience of space travelling. 


After passing the previous step, the player will have to land in space safely with his/her rocket and he will have to go through some changes such as adapting in a space environment , how to eat, how to drive, how to sleep, how to work there etc. 


Here, if the player passes the mathematical and physical quest such as exploring the area and acquiring information on space etc , only then the player will be able to come back to earth otherwise will fail. 


While in the virtual space the player will have to go through various tests, experiments. Here, the player will be sending information to earth ,taking information from the earth and working towards a goal so that he can reach the quest target easily and complete the quest.

In between this completion phase , the player will acquire points based on his progress .To get back to earth the player will have to gain a certain amount of points otherwise he will fail. The progression can be based on collecting info about stars, solar system , galaxy and the whole space...will contain exciting adventure quests such as travelling into the unknown etc.. We want to give our player the joy of discovering the unknown. knowing the unknown ..we will also try to replicate the real space station into our game so that player can have hands-on experience by travelling there. And players will have a better idea about how a space station is built upon.

As a result, players will be able to experience space from earth and enrich themselves in space knowledge .And since it will be made with quality graphics and animation, we hope that people from around the planet will be able to participate in this exciting adventure.


The data which we will be using will be collected from NASA’s data repository and will be made realizable and retrievable. NASA is conducting a thorough analysis in light of the information it puts on its servers, which is time-consuming and people from all over the planet are benefiting from it. We hope People will play our game, learn from it and can apply to participate in NASA’s various projects .The purpose of developing this game is to educate people about space and the earth, through entertainment ,immersion and visual storytelling .We hope this game will help people to gain knowledge on space and apply it in real life.


This is the basic design of our game on space travelling.

 

Space Agency Data

We are using Solar System Treks data to acquire specific texture so that we can properly use them on our game's planet and using it to make moon terrains and surface. From https://solarsystem.nasa.go website, we are taking inspiration for basics of space flight and using it in our game training session to give our player best possible experience. To provide information about stars and our origins we are using https://astrobiology.nasa.go website's data .This is helping us to provide accurate details. Hackathon Journey

Being able to participate in a NASA's event is like a dream come true . It is also a matter of pride. There is a lot of curiosity about space, sky, planets and stars among people. By utilizing this curiosity we wanted to make a video game and giving those the test of space exploration via virtual reality who are incapable of experience this phenomena in real time. We are having fun while we are working relentlessly to turn our goal into reality.


I gained knowledge about 3D modeling , creating virtual environment, lighting , motion, how physics comes into play in video games , how game logic works , Unity Engine , Blender etc while we were developing this game. Our team members know what they are doing and working with them is a pleasant surprise.


A project like this bound to have bugs. As we keep implementing our logic into unity engine we kept facing various type of design and code related issue. We kept getting back and forth to fix those issue. Also implementing what we wanted to make is a challenging task because of that we kept researching on various game developing methods and projects. Also to implement 3D environment we are using blender. And making a good 3D model is quiet challenging task.
