High-Level Project Summary
Personifying the Earth has been a shared tradition between all of mankind. In the collective consciousness the Earth is a motherly figure that protects and watches over humans. We've drawn inspiration from Ala, the personification of Earth and goddess of morality, fertility and creativity in African mythology. Fertility and creativity are the superpowers that Earth has, representing how it provides sustenance for all manner of life, and how it acts as a beacon of inspiration for every creative endeavour, respectively. We've added morality as a superpower. Many problems like pollution and wars would be solved if humanity had a figure looking over and guiding us like a teacher or a mother.

Detailed Project Description
It is a universal tradition to personify the Earth. Since the beginning of history, people have dreamed of seeing our common home in a familiar form. The most famous of these personifications is Gaia in Greek mythology. Wearing a Nasa T-shirt, Earth-Chan is an example that has become popular on the internet, which today's youth use to express themselves. It is no coincidence that these characters are usually women, because in the collective consciousness the Earth is a maternal figure that protects and looks after us.
We took our inspiration from Ala in African mythology. Because Ala is not just the personification of the Earth, but the goddess of morality, fertility, and creativity. That's why we think Ala is in line with our values.
The anthropomorphic Earth we have created has the appearance of a genderless human being who is not of any ethnicity, according to the principle of inclusivity. As a superhero, the Earth gets their superpowers from the goddess Ala.
The Earth's powers:
- Fertility: Not only humanity, but also all other living things with which we share this beautiful planet, are able to survive thanks to the blessings provided by the Earth. If we know how to save and use them correctly, the resources of the Earth are quite sufficient for all of us.
- Creativity: We know that the Earth meets our physical needs. We also have spiritual needs. Art is such a necessity. The Earth contains the most beautiful works of art, perfect landscapes, the most exciting adventures and discoveries. Visual arts and music were born with inspiration from the Earth. The Earth and the environment continue to inspire us technically. Scientific advances are still being made with miracles hidden on our planet; great inventions are still inspired by nature, animals, plants, ecosystems.
Our character not only gets their powers, but also their ideology from Ala. Although our character is genderless, they share Ala’s protecting and nurturing instincts (which are often associated with motherhood). They are a superhero fighting for us. When we say “us”, we mean all the animals, plants, fungi, other living and nonliving parts that make up these wonderful ecosystems.
We have added the “morality” power of Ala to Earth. Our superhero Earth will show humanity the right way; like a mother teaching her kid about the workings of nature, or a role model setting a positive example to society. Humans are the cause of problems such as environmental pollution and global warming. With an exemplary figure to correct their sense of morality many issues like wars, racism, genocides and anti-democracy will be solved, in addition to environmental problems.
Space Agency Data
The NASA website is one of the sources where you can find the most abundant and detailed information about our planet. Since we were originally a data science team, we first examined datasets and their visualizations. The apparent human impact on environmental disasters inspired us to create a superhero with the power of morality. By examining NASA's PR and STEM activities, we saw how our project could be more inclusive and aimed towards our goals.
Hackathon Journey
Our main focus in our Hackathon adventure was to have fun and achieve quality results through teamwork. To do this, we held a study in we brainstormed for ideas and participated in discussions about how those ideas could be improved. At the same time, we aimed to use the different competencies and knowledge of each of our members. Our team was originally founded to do research in the field of data science, thus we are successful in acquiring, sorting and using a wide variety of data sources.
