Introducing a superhero with an awesome personality who possesses extraordinary superpowers backed up with scientific facts, which we may have only witnessed in sci-fi movies. Our readers are up for a thrilling adventure as they explore the wonders of the earth's awesome abilities and the journey of our hero towards delivering Mother Earth from harm, thereby giving us more assurance for a better future filled with peace and joy to infinity and beyond as our team’s name proclaims, "Ananta!!!".

HOW WE ADDRESSED THIS CHALLENGE

WHAT IS IT?

Our wonderful planet Earth already has many fascinating methods by which it can maintain the various processes to keep it going and to sustain all life forms inhabiting it. Keeping in mind all these various abilities and learning more about them through research using the resources provided by the NASA OPEN DATA PORTAL, we personified earth as a physical embodiment possessing theses various abilities as “superpower" by utilizing these powers to bring about a positive change in the world by fighting against the problems that the earth is facing. In other words, a SUPERHERO. We have tried to identify the various effects and results of a few environmental problems that our planet is currently facing such as forest fires, species extinction, climate change, global warming, ozone layer depletion and so on, then we will further see how our hero fights against these problems by using the special superpower bestowed upon her.

THE CONCERN:

The concern is not that the earth is getting warmer but that it is happening at a rapid speed. It’s actually the warmest temperature on earth since the last ice age about 10 thousand years ago. The UN reports claims that right now our earth is about 1 degrees hotter than pre industrial times that’s around the year 1800s, which is still ok. In fact the UN even says, that if the planet gets warmer by 1.5 degrees before the end of the century wouldn't be so troubling. Reaching, 2 degrees temperature wouldn't alarm our survival either . But again then problem is the speed ,we are on track to hit 1.5 degree in only 10 years and if we don’t slow the warming down, it could mean catastrophe within our lifetime and we are already getting the taste of the natural disaster.

Europe is currently colder than Arctic. Millions of people are likely suffering worsening food and water shortage. Sea level are rising about 3 mm every year because sea water expand as temperature gets warmer. Melting ice sheets and glacier also add trillion ad tons of fresh water in the oceans. Entire coastal cities could be underwater within 80 years like Miami in the us or Osaka in Japan. Entire island nation in pacific could disappear.
Natural disaster like forest fire which we have highly focused on our project as. Australia’s unprecedented wildfires was supercharged all thanks to climate change. It was a situation that threatened survival of species. We are the ones who started this whole disaster and we could be the only one to shake things up and put them back to normal.

WHAT DO WE HOPE TO ACHIEVE

The present generation is in a situation where the environment is in a worsened condition and our future doesn’t look very promising. Therefore, we as the youth should take this responsibility on our shoulders to open the eyes of the people by enlightening them about the various threats which may likely lead to the disruption of the various natural processes which are responsible to make life on earth possible. Its upon us to realize that we are the biggest threat to Mother Earth, if we continue to live arrogantly and fail to work towards a better tomorrow we are at loss.

As we were given a superpower, we tried to use it in the best way to deal with climate crisis to stabilize the atmosphere and to provide instant action towards any problem aroused in different location. We have also provided a demo on how we can use this superpower to life threatening situations. Sustainability, Awareness and Action are crucial targets that we hope to achieve by presenting this project. It helps us to build interest in the audience and at the same time aims to deliver the message and alarm them about the entire situation in one shot. If these problems are left undealt we fear that the factors which makes life on earth suitable will be suppressed which may lead to mass extinction as predicted by the scientist. Since our acts are based on the belief that 'there is always a ray of hope, instead of searching for hope, we must focus on action'. Everything has to change and it has to happen today.

OUR TARGET AUDIENCE

Our project focuses mainly on the younger population of society since they are our future and we believe that by inspiring the youth, we are creating a better tomorrow . Through this project we wish to encourage anyone who has the will to save the planet or want to contribute even 0.1% for the betterment of the planet. By addressing the main agenda and creating awareness among the mass population will help everyone to understand the need of the hour and encourage them to take a step towards improving the welfare of our beloved planet.

SOCIAL ISSUES

Never in the phase of human life and evolution, have we been richer, powerful and enormously advanced and still advancing. Yet, we are facing a rapid change in climate and environmental crisis. Everything we do to makes our lives better and more comfortable has actually been making things worse for biosphere. Everything that happens in present on the earth is correlated. Hence is the social issue. Environmental issues and social issue is not something standing at north and south. To understand this better, we have taken pictures of what happened in phoenix. Arizona is one of the places in phoenix that records the highest rate of heat related illness in the city. Plants are variable that connects the map of heat to the map of poverty. So educating these group of people will help to educate 9.6% population of our planet. It will also help us to motivate them to show their active participation towards such topics.

If we look at the map, it can be seen that areas with high poverty and areas with high heat are same.

OUR HERO: GRETA THUNBERG

To capture the powerful grandeur of our planet’s abilities in a single figure, we decided to settle upon a very influential, inspiring, gifted and passionate young individual whose voice is already a powerful weapon in itself and is instrumental in bringing about a change by inspiring many individual to fight for a better tomorrow, who will not only use this power bestowed upon them to bring about a revolution but will also encourage others to join the battle to save the earth. We all know that with great power comes great responsibility and being equipped with a very high authority would be in vain if it falls under the wrong hands. Therefore, we as a team finally singled out the most suited individual to take upon this role as our Superhero and she is none other than this young and inspiring warrior, GRETA THUNBERG.

SUPERPOWER : Telekinesis

The psychic ability which allows an individual to influence a physical system without any physical interaction. While acting as our avatar, our hero’s powers are magnified, having control on all elemental manipulation, including matter manipulation on atomic level and also teleportation to be able to do quick actions to get a hold of the situation and understand by being on the ground zone. It could also deal with the real life situation and take the necessary action as and when required after observing the problem and causes for the same.

ABILITY OF EARTH: Maintain Atmosphere

Air - We need oxygen to breath keep our bodies working. Makes communication possible as the vibration from our vocal cord that travels in the air to produce sounds.
UV radiation protection.
Creates pressure- without which liquid water couldn’t exist.
Regulates temperature- gives us different weather to make living sustainable on earth.
Atmospheric stability- helps in cloud formation.

NASA’s theme –"power of 10", inspired us to come up with 10 basic problem and highlight their causes and possible solution. By using the superpower, we shall look into how Greta will be able to solve these problems that our earth is facing and possibly avoid climate crisis and other situations. But for other basic problems solution is present just its implementation is pending and social awareness is still yet to be spread. Our mascot fits well in the concept as it will aware and urge people to question the heading bodies and give ideas in which one can work at individual level. We have stated all the technologies that are present at the moment as we aim to spread the vast knowledge to any individual in a simple way through this project and using superpower, we will entertain the audience in thinking what if a mascot could really do this?

· SENSOR NODE

LoRaWAN :

LoRaWAN is a media access control (MAC) protocol for wide area networks. It is designed to allow low-powered devices to communicate with Internet-connected applications over long range wireless connections.

This will allow our mascot to communicate over large distance.

· BASE STATION

The entire sensor node will send data to base station by which our mascot can see and take the necessary action to the aroused problem.

SITUATION IN WHICH OUR MASCOT WILL WORK (FOREST FIRE):

Our mascot already possesses one of the ability of earth, that is, to hold and maintain the atmosphere which in some ways may become suppressed with the aid of individual through their needless involvement inside the environment. Speaking about one is the wooded area fireplace which has take diverse shape to engulf anything comes in its path. So addressing this problem we have created our mascot that may discover the trouble aroused in the special place and use the superpower to stop or manipulate it on time So if there's a woodland fire in the region of our interest it's going to get up to date the use of NASA real time monitoring (firm) and blended technology of WSN and LoRaWAN to offer communication with lengthy range transmission. After our mascot will attain its destiny and with the potential of telekinesis will manage the hearth in that vicinity.

HOW WE USED THE WEBSITE:

We created a net website to direct all of the problems of the individual through this website, and it will additionally provide records for the current state of the scenario. It’s will also get up to date time to time.

HOW WE USED SPACE AGENCY DATA

The information from NASA, the most relevant news and dense amount of data is extracted in a calculated way to provide our mascot to find the root of problem occurred in a specified location. NASA’s dataset helped us mapping wildfires and it will direct the problem and will send an alert to our mascot so it will take instant action towards the aroused problem. but before coming up with all these ideas we went through NASA’s earth observation studies and satellites which helped us to understand the changes that we went through ages and also the problems that we are facing at present.

How We Developed This Project

Our team “Ananta” consists of youngsters from STEM stream who have completed their 12th standard in 2021. Although the lockdown following the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic affected everyone , somehow it has given us the opportunity to work as a team and to pen down our ideas into this project. We believe that our team has all the capabilities to make this project successful.

WHAT INSPIRED US?

As one of the member is an active environmentalist in his local area and aspires to be a writer worked on the script for our project and the majority of the member are from biology stream and our interest in the subject inspired us to choose this challenge.

SET BACKS

Although we lacked proper skills to create a software application to back up our project but fortunately by using our prerequisite knowledge on a particular programming language, that is, Python. This helped us create the code for the chat box which enables the user to talk to our mascot..

OUR APPROACH

We have shown the ability of our mascot to communicate through coding language (python) and a website to provide necessary elements needed for this project. This will help to attract younger generation to learn about major problems that earth is facing currently. The superpower possessed by our mascot makes one wonder things which seems impossible. We have also provided some science-based facts with technology to support to execute it in real life situations with superpower. As this event is occurring globally so we have included a member from another country to get more exposure. The NASA data provided to us allowed us to move along smoothly while we learned a lot of new things.
