High-Level Project Summary
Our team developed a superhero named "Apolaki" with extreme abilities personified from the same abilities the Earth has. We took into consideration the ways on how these superpowers appear as beautiful and fearful at the same time; helpful and hurtful at the same time. Apolaki was made to represent everything NASA aims to do. Terrifying abilities of nature were chosen as Apolaki's abilities. Among his abilities is being able to control the moon. One of NASA's plans is to reach the moon by 2024 to bring new knowledge and inspire the next generation. Being able to control the moon, Apolaki is able to provide ground for research that will take humans to Mars and beyond.

Detailed Project Description
Our team developed a superhero named "Apolaki" with extreme abilities personified from the same abilities the Earth has. He was traditionally painted on paper and digitally manipulated to expose its true beauty.
We took into consideration the ways on how these superpowers appear as beautiful and fearful at the same time; helpful and hurtful at the same time. Apolaki was made to represent everything NASA aims to do.
The name "Apolaki" was coined from a Filipino God of Sun and War. Terrifying abilities of nature were chosen as Apolaki 's abilities. Among his abilities are lightning, fire, moon control, and unparalleled sun absorption.
His lightning prowess can produce particle outbursts that can be seen from space. It represents the Earth's ability to produce phenomena that can provide useful data to precisely predict weather outcomes for the safety of planes and ships exposed to the disturbances of the atmosphere. This power is both terrifying and beautiful. It's spectacular show of lightning has unparalleled beauty while its thunder has a heart-shaking presence.
Apolaki can also manipulate fire to his will. Apolaki can put a stop to forest fires using his fire manipulation technique. Using this power, he can combat climate change and reverse global warming. He can also produce inextinguishable fire that not even Neptune, a water rich planet, can stop. This power represents the Earth's burning desire to self-heal if humanity will allow it.
Among his abilities is being able to control the moon. One of NASA's plans is to reach the moon by 2024 to bring new knowledge and inspire the next generation. Being able to control the moon, Apolaki is able to provide ground for research that will take humans to MARS and beyond.
Using his ability to absorb the sun's power, Apolaki forged a blade producing electricity capable of powering a country. He wields this sword to suppress anyone sabotaging the switch to renewable energy.
All of these powers come with responsibilities and Apolaki is aware of it. He remains true to his objectives of protecting the Earth and its inhabitants to anything/anyone who dares to harm it.
Space Agency Data
NASA published an article about lightning last March 23rd this year. The article's title is "Observing Lightning from the International Space Station." It discussed how lightning can play a crucial role in developing a system of precisely predicting weather patterns in the atmosphere for the safety of planes and ships exposed to the disturbances of the atmosphere. Using Lightning Imaging Sensor (LIS), Dr. Timothy Lang explained how each sensor will be used for this purpose [1].
This article is one of our inspirations to how we created Apolaki, our superhero who represents everything NASA aims to do. His lightning prowess can produce particle outbursts that can be seen from space to provide useful data to precisely predict weather outcomes for protecting the Earth and its inhabitants.
Another NASA special article, "Apollo's Legacy Is NASA's Future," was also used as an inspiration to Apolaki's ability to control the moon. NASA's plan to return to the moon by 2024 is another giant leap to a space fairing civilization. After the Apollo lunar flights ended in 1972, we've been building plans to bring back humans to the moon and challenge deep-space missions as humans. Not only is the moon a perfect place to test space technologies, it can also inspire the next generation and remind them that humans can do anything if they work together [2].
We based Apolaki's ability able to control the moon on this article. One of NASA's plans is to reach the moon by 2024 to bring new knowledge and inspire the next generation. Being able to control the moon, Apolaki is able to provide ground for research that will take humans to MARS and beyond.
Hackathon Journey
The Space Apps experience is exhilarating as mentors guide the applicants to the end. We learned how to value teamwork as we brainstormed and divided work. There are setbacks especially due to poor internet connectivity but things worked out well in the end. We would like to thank our mentors from the Manila region who guided us starting from finding teammates to finishing the project.
