Spectrum Powers

Super Enzymes

High-Level Project Summary

In Super Enzymes project, we developed the existed idea of the method where plastic-consuming enzymes can be used by humans to clean the Earth from one of the most persistent pollutants - plastic. The implementation of this project is important as we should to reduce the amount of plastic as soon as possible to save the Earth before it looses its irrecoverable essence and beauty.

Detailed Project Description

Super Enzymes project helps to educate people about benefits of enzymes and soil which contribute in the protection of our planet from plastic pollution. It describes how these enzymes work and its benefits to society. In Super Enzymes project, we create containers with the large number of enzymes as an effective plastic “recycling” method.

Space Agency Data

Recent calculations project that by 2050 there be more plastic in the ocean than fish - Eric Lindstorm, Physical Oceanography Program Scientist in the Science Mission Directorate at NASA Headquarters in Washington D.C. (Notes from the Field - Plastic, Plastic, Where is All Our Plastic?).

Hackathon Journey

Our Space Apps experience was super cosmic. It was the first ever hackathon for all the members of the Spectrum Powers’ team. Through our journey, we learned how to tackle different types of issues in a short period of time. There were a lot of challenges; however, as our team’s motto states - 3^0=1: Power comes from Unity. When someone from the team wasn’t sure about their work’s part, we helped each other by discussing and giving our feedbacks and support. We learned about our hidden powers as well as powers that we need to develop.

We want to thank NASA Space Apps Challenge’s Team for such a wonderful experience. It gave us the understanding of our capabilities and what we should improve for further positive results in the field of hackathons. Thank you and till the next Happy Hacking!!
