High-Level Project Summary
The world has too many problems on its plate such as the greenhouse effect and deforestation. Moreover, these problems escalate as the day goes by. The world needs someone who is going to deal with these problems and eliminate future problems. Therefore, we created a figure that will help the Earth for its journey to get back on its feet. This figure can turn greenhouse gases that can be found in the atmosphere into an alternative source of energy. In addition to this superpower, the tears of our figure will turn into a plant where the tears are drop.

Detailed Project Description
The world faces a lot of challenges so all we need is a savior. To make a difference and create our savior, we attend NASA's Space Apps Challenge and choose Superpowearth.
In order to serve this purpose, we made preparations before starting our project. We based our informatıon on trustworthy sources. We explored several themes under the title of global problems. We conjugated our ideas and discussed them.
DEFORESTATION
Firstly, deforestation has been an important topic that we focused on. In order to understand what is deforestation and how it affects our world, we looked at several websites of NASA that provide that information. After we gathered around every information we needed about deforestation, we looked up some reliable definitions of deforestation. Here is a definition that could help you get a better hold of our topic: "Deforestation refers to the decrease in forest areas across the world that are lost for other uses such as agricultural croplands, urbanization, or mining activities.".

GREENHOUSE EFFECT
The second topic that we wanted to emphasize was the greenhouse effect. It is a universal issue affecting all of us, no matter you notice it or not. According to our researches, we wanted to integrate the information that we found into our project.
Greenhouse effect: Certain gases in the atmosphere block heat from escaping. Long-lived gases that remain semi-permanently in the atmosphere and do not respond physically or chemically to changes in temperature are described as "forcing" climate change. Gases, such as water vapor, which respond physically or chemically to changes in temperature are seen as "feedbacks.". These gases are methane (CH4), water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), nitrous oxide (N2O), chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs)
As a result of our researches, we planned and designed a mind map then projected it onto a new superhero character: Orbis Terrarum.
OUR CHARACTER DESIGN:
Our character was inspired by daily global problems that surround our world, such as the ones we talked about above. Of course, there are several other additions to them in our character. We wanted to portray our character as a strong woman since we believe in the power of divine femininity, also we were inspired by woman's caretaking, motherly and protective nature. According to us, the beauty of nature can only be portrayed by the woman's elegance. The theme of deforestation was pictured in our character by the forests on fire that is placed on our superhero as a piece of her. Our character embraces the problems of nature as a whole and uses its healing nature towards such problems. Our character has an elegant yet powerful figure, she is holding all the burden of the world all by herself, yet she stands strong and does everything she can to protect nature's balance. Her hair symbolizes the role of the water element in our world. It is an oceany blue, representing %70 of the world. It spills onto oceans that carry the glaciers that carry the polar bears symbolizing the animal life present in our world. The glaciers are melting due to global warming, which is another big issue. Yet our character, using her healing power and embracing everything happening in nature, helps the animals attain their nature back. Her wings are made up of branches, resonating with her tan skin color representing the color of tree bodies. On her wings, she carries the animal kingdom. This symbolizes how our superhero is also ls also like a home, protecting its creatures. With the planets, the moon, and the sun orbiting around her mind, there is a symbolization that she can maintain balance with the power of her mind. With the ozone bubbles power of hers, she holds onto the world tightly and repairs the effects of the greenhouse effect. Green vines are climbing her body, symbolizing the fact that she embraces every part of nature to herself.
NAME: Orbis Terrarum
Meaning: "World" in Latin
SUPERPOWERS:
- Ozone Bubble Power: She can turn the greenhouse gases that can be found in the atmosphere into a source of energy that can produce the energy that people get from fossil fuels to continue to their daily lifestyles.
- Every time humans destroy a forest, Orbis will feel it and cry because of the pain. Moreover, the tears will turn into a plant where they are drop.
In addition to these superpowers, she will also teach humans how to assimilate a lifestyle that will be integrated with nature.

Before we start to think about the superpowers that can help the world, we searched about what are some of the problems of the world. For our research, we looked at the resource section of our challenge page. While looking at some of the websites that were provided by NASA, not only we learned about some of the main issues, we also saw how serious these problems were via the images that NASA provide for us.
Hackathon Journey
It was such a progressive and inspiring challenge for all of us. It has affected all of our ways of thinking. It couraged us to work together and learn how to work together with other people, also to speak up our opinions and coming to logical solutions as a team. We are so grateful to everyone hosting this challenge for us. It is surely a very exciting and unforgettable experience. We chose the challenge 'SuperpowerEarth' because we wanted to contribute our solutions to the world. Our approach was based on bringing a new perspective on protecting our planet. Even when there occurred a few problems with timing, we still managed to find the middle ground. I would like to thank my teammates for being supporting for each other and never giving up at tough times of the process. Overall we enjoyed the experience and we would recommend everyone to give a shot to this renewing challenge.
