Dudes in Space

High-Level Project Summary

Our team managed to develop a solution to a problem “THE TRAIL TO MARS: CAN YOU KEEP YOUR CREW ALIVE”. Player starts with a crew on the spaceship. Crew consists of : mechanic, medic, scientist, engineer and shturman. During each ship-day there will be unique tasks for crew. The main idea was to create a game that will encourage young people (10-14 y.o.) into space topics and develop new vision in the next generation. They will not just play our game and have fun. Dudes in Space shows all the risks that are involved in space travel, not only in travel to Mars. Humanity has to make sure they know how to solve all the problems before we’ll take a flight to the next planet in our Solar System.

Detailed Project Description

Our team managed to develop a solution to a problem “THE TRAIL TO MARS: CAN YOU KEEP YOUR CREW ALIVE”.

Player starts with a crew on the spaceship. Crew consists of several roles: mechanic, medic, scientist, engineer and shturman. During each ship-day there will be a different amount of tasks.

Tasks will be linked to a specific ship component:

  • Ventilation System
  • Engine condition
  • Connection condition
  • Electronic condition
  • General condition of the ship

For each astronaut there will be unique tasks. Player decides how to assign crew members to each task and tries to make sure that the spaceship goes fine.

Besides, players are involved to control crew member vital stats:

  • Health
  • Sanity
  • Physical Activity
  • Task progress

Ignoring those stats will lead to a loss.

With a chance, players will face special “events”. Those events may not be really different from default tasks. They will be just more dangerous to solve.

There’s a list of some possible events:

  • Powerful Solar Wind
  • Disease on a spaceship
  • Comet flies past the spaceship
  • and so on…

For this event the player has an ability to choose: which resources he’s going to waste. For example, when a comet flies past a spaceship, shturmas has to decide: whether he wants to waste part of the ship's cover or spend some fuel to avoid different dust and small asteroids. Any of these decisions will lead to a unique game result (player will lose or win and complete a trip).

He has to survive for a preferred amount of ship days.

The main idea was to create a game that will encourage young people (10-14 y.o.) into space topics and develop new vision in the next generation. They will not just play our game and have fun. Dudes in Space shows all the risks that are involved in space travel, not only in travel to Mars. Humanity has to make sure they know how to solve all the problems before we’ll capture next planet in our Solar System!

Space Agency Data

Using space agency data was really handy.

Hackathon Journey

During Hackathon event we have got a significant experience. Such as team working, using the variety of apps. We tend to think this challenge help people to prepare themselves for working in the IT companies, communicating with different people and finding out what it means to do a project in a short time .

As for resolving problems, if we have misundertandable situations we have used Internet resources and discuss this problem for efective time using.

We would like to thank every mentor who helped us. There were many useful advices and ideas.
