High-Level Project Summary

We decided to make an RPG 2D game called Space Adventure to Mars that simulates an Earth to Mars travel where you must keep your crew safe and alive during all the travel, we have considered some important things to develop the game.One of the main focuses of the game is to educate the players on the risks and difficulties that must be considered and through which the crew must go through when making a travel to Mars or any other distant planet.The gameplay will be that the player can control the different members of the ship and perform different tasks, in addition to solving the problems that arise during the travel to keep them healthy and alive.

a. Game Analysys

We decided to make an RPG 2D game called Space Adventure to Mars that simulates an Earth to Mars travel where you must keep your crew safe and alive during all the travel, we have considered some important things to develop the game.

One of the main focuses of the game is to educate the players on the risks and difficulties that must be considered and through which the crew must go through when making a travel to Mars or any other distant planet.

The gameplay will be that the player can control the different members of the ship and perform different tasks, in addition to solving the problems that arise during the travel to keep them healthy and alive.

During the trip there will be various problems that are solved with mini-games, problems such as electrical problems, oxygen, communication, and others.

There will also be special events such as Increased radiation, asteroids, gravity changes, etc.

During the first game Analysis phase have defined the next specifications:

The spacecraft will have some general statistics, like:

If any of those general statistics drops to 0% the game will be lost.


> Player Statistics

Then the individual players of the crew will have their own statistics, these statistics are:

If one of the crew members health drops to 0% he will die and the game will be lost.


> Spacecraft Map (Game Map)

The design of the map was made by following the principal areas of an actual spacecraft, but we decided to make some paths between every room to give a harder experience of movement between them.

We decided to create the rooms listed there:

  2. Laboratory / Medical / Exercises Room
  3. Oxygen Room
  4. Water System Room
  5. Beds Room / Secure Room
  6. Electrical / Motors Controls Room
  7. Cultivation Room


> Occasional Issues (Minigames)

In the travel your crew will face with different occasional issues that have some negative effects on them or in the spacecraft if they don’t solve them, these occasional effects are:

In the other side of occasional issues, the crew will face the constant risks, like:

Players must consider doing some tasks to keep the crew healthy, these tasks may be:

The game art is something difficult to create in this short period, but we worked in a Pre-Alpha Crew Members Art.

Map will be divided in different rooms to make the game more interactive and harder to move.


Game Development

For the Game development we tried to develop it using the Phaser3 Framework created by Richard Davey.

Phaser 3 is the next generation of the Phaser Game Framework. Every last element has been rebuilt from scratch using a fully modular structure, combined with a data-orientated approach. It includes a brand-new custom WebGL renderer designed specifically for the needs of modern 2D games.


> Creating Map Boundaries

One of the first things we have to do, is to set the map size and boundaries, we have used a code that gets all the green colors of an image and creates a boundaries matrix based on it.

Hackathon Journey

This was our first Space Apps Experience and our largest hackaton ever.

Our team choosed this challenge because we are big fans of the games and our pricnipal approach was the development of the technical rquirements of the game.

We had some issues in the development phase because our boundaries wasnt working well and we wasnt able to put our player assets into the game.
