Project Diana

High-Level Project Summary

I developed our game by adding levels. At first, it was just a boring game through which the narrator warned the player about the hazards of space and how to solve them. I added levels later on, once I realized how boring the game was. My challenge was to create a game through which the player could understand the dangers of life in space, the dangers of space travel, and the dangers of staying on Mars. This is important because many of the participants part of the Hackathon probably have a deep connection with space. Meaning, they may really want to explore Mars. Many young children want to go to Mars. Learning the hazards would give them a better understanding of what to expect upon Mars.

Detailed Project Description

My project is an app/game through which the user can interact with the game. First, they read through the descriptions given. After reading through all of them, the reader can play the game. It has 5 "levels" for the 5 challenges I've stated. If they get an answer wrong, then they're given why it's wrong. If they're correct they move on to the next question. This game better helps the reader understand the challenges in space and why it is so essential to be accurate and organized. It gives the user knowledge of the problems in space and the risks astronauts take when they're in space. I hope that in the future I make this game more interactive and more professional, rather than making it look like a 6th grader made it. Which, she did. The coding language I used was JavaScript and Blockley. I used code.org for making my app.

Space radiation is comprised of atoms in which electrons have been stripped away as the atom accelerated in interstellar space to speeds approaching the speed of light – eventually, only the nucleus of the atom remains" Jason Perez. Hackathon Journey

The reason I chose this project is that I'm extremely fascinated by space travel, and want to be an astronaut. I want to step on Mars, maybe even be the woman to step on Mars. One thing I learned was not to give up. There was this one time when no matter how many lines of code I tried, I wasn't able to reach where I wanted to. I had given up. But then, the flame of hope started to flare in my heart again, and I put all my might into making the project. I wanted to finish my app/game, and I did. I'd really like to thank my parents for being there with me every step of my journey, and being my backbone. For helping me stand straight, when I was about to fall, and for me to not give up. I really hope that the judges enjoy my app/game and that I'm chosen as a global nominee. Thank you.
