High-Level Project Summary
We, the Space Rangers, developed a game using Python that allows a simulated Mars trip from Earth. This simulation allows users to recognize the difficulties of space travel and the requirements for space travel to exist. Our game helps to simulate the possible obstacles and, hopefully, reach Mars without any issues. This is important for students because education about space is pertinent to future endeavors.

Detailed Project Description
There is the user, one doctor, and 5 other crew members. The user's mission is to reach Mars. During the journey, they will be offered decisions, allowing the user to decide the best way to utilize their time. This can range from choosing to eat, exercise, or monitor their spacecraft. However, there are right choices and wrong choices and challenges they will need to face—ranging from illnesses to asteroid collisions. A chart will be displayed on the upper right, updating after each decision the user makes. It contains information such as their health bar, and the distance remaining on their journey. Each choice that they make will determine their future—and whether or not they reach Mars successfully or die in the attempt. Their objective is to stay healthy — both physically and mentally. They will be provided with status updates after each decision they make. Exercising regularly, entertaining oneself through the means of watching videos and playing board games, eating, sleeping, and monitoring the spacecraft will all be necessary habits as an astronaut. The spacecraft will be traveling for 6 months, covering 55,000,000 miles in distance. First, the user will be introduced to the objective, crewmate, dangers and equipment. After entering the game, they will have options/decisions on what to do. Based on their decision, the crewmates may live or suffer.
Space Agency Data
We were inspired by the websites:
https://mars.nasa.gov/#red_planet/4
and
https://www.nasa.gov/feature/nasa-selects-crew-for-simulated-trip-to-a-mars-moon.
The first source motivated us, letting us know that we could influence the future. Astrobiology is a huge field of science that could determine the whole existence of human beings and their relationships with other possible life. Through the second source, we were able to see what the experience was like to travel to Mars.
Hackathon Journey
We really wanted to take up the challenge of creating a game while still being able to use our own imagination. This challenge was the perfect topic for every single person to be able to equally contribute. Our experience with Space Apps was very memorable. We learned the distance between Earth to Mars, and the difficulties that astronauts have to face. Our approaches started off as very complicated, but with perseverance, we achieved our goal, and we were very satisfied with our ending product. We communicated clearly and always are willing to help each other. We would like to thank everyone who supported us throughout this memorable journey.
