5778K Campaign

High-Level Project Summary

Our project aims to increase the public awareness of the Parker Solar probe and current efforts at investigating solar activity through a synced educational app and website. Furthermore, we have also developed an AR projection on Parker Solar Probe and Solar Wind which allows users to have a more interesting educational experience on the topic.

Detailed Project Description

In project 5778 K, our team ought to improve public knowledge of the many spacecraft exploring the Sun, hence impacts and benefits brought to Earth by the advanced technology. We ought to spread awareness to the general public of the underappreciated technology, hence bringing the seemingly distanced knowledge closer towards our precious generation. Meanwhile, we have developed an educational application as a platform for people to interact and gain knowledge on the mentioned topic, with 4 main functions to be used.

SpaceNews - In SpaceNews, we provide updates on technology, news, and status of Earth from the Solar Parker Probe and solar orbiters. This is to inform the general public on various news and information of the spacecraft and its impacts, as well as increasing public awareness on the mentioned topic.

SpaceHubs - Another area of the application, namely, SpaceHubs, provides a platform for users to interact with each other on behalf of knowledge and ideas. This is to encourage users and space lovers to further expand their knowledge on the topic through interactions with peers by exchanging ideas.

SpaceCinema - Through SpaceCinema, we collaborate with professionals for informative and educational videos, lectures, and documentaries for users to expand their knowledge in the field.

SpaceClassroom - A platform for schools and institutions to spread information and knowledge around the young generation.

In order to popularize the above application, we have also created a website where people can get to know more about our mission and technology, hence subscribing to be the first to know about our launch.

Furthermore, for a more interesting learning experience, our team has also developed an AR system that allows users to observe the Parker Solar Probe and solar wind from a different perspective.

To develop our project, we have used wix.com for creating our website, https://www.figma.com for creating our application prototype, and brioxr.com to create the AR system.

Space Agency Data

We used public images from NASA to create the augmented reality projection, to feature to the public accurate data and increase their visual engagement with the scientific investigations. We also used the public NASA data for our website, including information and pictures of the Parker Solar Probe. Throughout the whole process of self teaching ourselves on the knowledge and developing an application, we have used several pieces of data to help us on getting familiar with the topic, hence inspired us on creating an AR projection in response to all the resources data we have read through.

Hackathon Journey

While selecting challenges, our team has found this challenge particularly fascinating, since we all have an interest in space / planetary science, this challenge can pretty much satisfy our favouritism. Through the process, we found that most of us have a lack of knowledge on the respective topic despite the fact that we had an interest in astronomy, therefore we have decided to self-taught ourselves on the topic at the beginning.

After knowing more in the field, we all agree that this is an important and life-changing issue as we humans benefit from the technology on a day-to-day basis, therefore we hope to spread the information out to the general public, especially the young generation who will dedicate the society in the future decades. We first look back to our own self, in what way will we head our interest towards the topic? Then, we found that there’s actually a lack of a bridge between the field and the general public, so that it would be necessary for us to fill in the gap in order to further inform and educate people about the field. This is why we have chosen to develop an application which includes several components just like the functions people will have on their phones. SpaceHubs is just like different social media applications, where people get to interact with each other, SpaceCinema is like Youtube and Masterclass, where people can access to professional and educational video on the topic, SpaceNews is the same as newspaper, this makes sure users can have interactions with the field, lastly, SpaceClassroom is just like online schools and Google classroom nowadays, which encourage our young generation to learn with their peers.

Furthermore, for a more interesting learning experience, our team has also developed an AR system that allows users to observe the Parker Solar Probe and solar wind from a different perspective.

Lastly, we would like to firstly thank everyone in the group for being interactive and dedicated, and always encouraging each other throughout the process. Secondly, we would also want to thank NASA and the team for holding such a fun and meaningful event for us to participate in!
