Unlocking the Secrets of the Sun

High-Level Project Summary

The team has developed a user interactive website that is designed to raise public awareness regarding the spacecrafts around the sun. It solves the challenge by providing a place where users can learn and understand more about the different spacecrafts orbiting around the sun and also allowing users to engage with the related topic of the spacecrafts through social media. It is important because users can learn about the valuable data retrieved from missions and how it is affecting the way we live.

Detailed Project Description

For our project, the team has created a website called "Probe Your Knowledge". The website provides information and details explaining the importance of spacecraft exploring the sun. On the website, we display 2D and 3D visualisations of the three space probes namely Parker Solar Probe, Stereo-A, OSIRIS-REx orbiting around the sun. There are descriptions for each space probe, some information about the latest light data, latest milestones from NASA's repository and some of their mission status updates. Moreover, we have a section for streaming Twitter Trends related to the different space missions. This promotes user engagement in a way where it sparks interesting discussions among the users.

The software and tools that the team used to develop this project are Visual Studio, Notepad++, DreamWeaver and GitHub for the deployment of the "Probe Your Knowledge" website. The main coding languages are HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

Space Agency Data

The team has chosen to use data from NASA's official website, Home – NASA Solar System Exploration, to ensure details in our website are the most accurate and updated as well. We have used it by displaying the data in the details tabs and pages.

Hackathon Journey

As a whole, the team would describe Space Apps experience as challenging yet fun and informative. We've learned so much about the different spacecrafts around the sun and the details of each spacecraft and their unique purposes. We decided to choose this challenge as we think that most people don't know much about the sun and the happenings around it, including us, team Area 51. Our approach to develop this project is to ensure anyone with internet can have access to our website, reach a wide range of audience no matter the age and also providing a simple design to grab the attention of kids and adults. Our team resolved challenges faced by helping each other out and communicate frequently with one another. The team would like to thank the organizer, "MINISTRY OF EDUCATION, SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGICAL RESEARCH" and partner, Realfun Learning centre and also all collaboration partners for bringing in the Space App Challenge into Sarawak.
