The Dream

High-Level Project Summary

I developed a HTML5 website that helps enhance the readers understanding of the sun. The aim of this project is to develop an "interactive and immersive method" to improve public knowledge. By creating an informative yet concise site , this gives the reader an abundance of information along with the realization of how important these heliophysics projects are in terms of our way of life. This website informs the reader of projects such as the Parker Solar Probe and the Solar Orbiter. This site can be used as an educational tool for people of all ages using videos and images to reduce the amount of reading they will have to do to keep them interacted.

Detailed Project Description

This website is made to educate and enhance the readers understanding of the sun. The website is simple in its use with images , information and videos. The benefits of this website are clear. Compared to the long and in-depth websites made by NASA and the ESA , this HTML5 website is concise and to the point. It gives the important information in an efficient way and still allows the reader to learn about heliophysics and the spacecrafts that go on missions because of it. My aim for this website would be for it to be of use to be people of all ages and to be used as an educational tool to advance peoples understanding of how the things occuring on the sun can have an impact on our lives and what the purpose of the spacecraft missions are for.

For this project I executed this website using HTML5 and CSS with a Sublime Text Editor. I gathered my information from the European Space Agency website and its Youtube channels and the NASA website and its Youtube channels.

Space Agency Data

Firstly I learned about heliophysics from the video regarding the "Understanding The Secrets Of The Sun" on the NASA Space Apps YouTube channel. I then took down some notes from this video of information that I could use on my website. I then went to the NASA.gov website which contained a section on the Parker Solar Probe and I used information from this website to help improve my section on the probe itself. I collected my images from NASA.gov credited images on Google and I used a video from the launch of the Parker Solar Probe which was on the NASA YouTube channel.

For the Solar Orbital I went to the section dedicated to the probe on the European Space Agency website and collected images associated with the agency as well as using the launch video from the ESA's Youtube channel.

Although both are similar in goal the approach of both vary. I found it important to include some of the firsts of these projects as I don't think many realize how much dedication and resolve it takes to be so patient , waiting months , if not years for productive results for such an expensive expedition.

Hackathon Journey

I thoroughly enjoyed the Space Apps experience. I learned so much about heliophysics creating this website. The title challenge "Understanding The Secrets Of The Sun" instantly intrigued me. It is in human nature to see or hear the word "secret" and want to uncover everything hidden from you! Naturally I just wondered how much I didn't know about the Sun and I found out I knew (and most people know) not nearly enough about the relationship between the Sun and the Earth. My approach to the project was to firstly outline what I wanted to include on the website and how I wanted to portray the information I had gathered on the projects. Once I done this it was only a matter of deciding the best and most effective way of creating the project.

I only really had setbacks when it came to coding the website in terms of code format. At the end I caught myself having to go back and fix a few errors I had made with my code to ensure it was displayed in the best light.

I would like to thank my lecturer Sahir Sharma for teaching me about HTML last year as without him I wouldn't have been able to design this website and learn all the great things I learned over the past two days.
