High-Level Project Summary
We designed a smaller, more customizable, more functional, more ergonomic robot than other robots for planetary exploration. Thanks to these features of Bandit-41, planetary explorations can be made easier and less costly.

Detailed Project Description
Bandit-41
Why Did We Designed It?
- We designed this robot to make planetary exploration easier and more affordable.
Design
- Wheels: There is 4 wheels in Bandit-41 drive system. These wheels also has the ability to rotate in the axis of deviation. This additional feature is used for steering the vehicle. The wheels are made of aluminum.
- Suspension: Rocker-Bogie Mechanism is used. The mechanism is difficult and inclined. Rocker-Bogie will be used to prevent the vehicle from being disconnected from the ground on surfaces.
- Robot Arm: There is an arm on top of the vehicle for detailed examination of subjects such as surface shapes, soil and rock structures. This additional materials can be attached and removed from this arm (ex: drill, clamp)
- Vehicle Battery/Energy/Fuel: Liquid hydrogen will be used as fuel. Hydrogen is a light but very powerful fuel. As a result of its reaction with oxygen, energy is released. In space, the sun, which is an external energy source, will be used in photovoltaic solar panel systems.
- Vehicle Exterior Surface: CFRP (Carbon-fiber Reinforced Polymer) will be used in the vehicle outer surface. This Carbon fiber will make a great contribution to the vehicle thanks to its high specific strengths, resistance to torsion and loading damage and corrosion. Apart from that, it will be used in boron.
- Balance: In the Rocker-Bogie suspension system, the legs (rocker and bogie) on both sides are connected to the chassis. However, the legs provide stability to the chassis when going in and out of sloping terrain, lowering and rising. This is an indispensable feature for the TOAF Vehicle, which has the tools to enable it to perform the tasks assigned to it on or under it.
Why Is The Robot More Economic?
- Because only an additional tool (eg: drill for drilling the surface) can be taken, which can be taken in accordance with the conditions of the place.
- Even if the wheels are damaged, it can move thanks to its legs, so the wheels do not need to be change immediately.
- Smaller than other spacecrafts.
What Does It Work With?
- With uranium and solar energy.
What does it do?
- By transmitting the samples taken from the surface and the places it took with the camera to NASA, it allows the features of the planet to be understood more quickly.
Space Agency Data
While doing our project, we researched NASA's data as a space agency.
Thanks to this research, we decided how to design the robot.
Inspired by the exploratory robots that have been made before, we have designed a more useful and unique robot than the old ones.
Hackathon Journey
Our aim when joining SpaceApps; It was about gaining new experiences, improving our ability to work as a team, and creating a new solution for the benefit of the world.
While developing our project; We focused on the originality, economy and functionality of the project.
We did research on the points we got stuck on and we consulted our teachers on the points we couldn't solve.
We would also like to thank our local leaders and mentor teachers who supported us in this process.
